Did we lead the nation in personal fouls?

I think the Bucket game was at least the second time this year we've had 5 or more 15 yard personal foul penalties in a single game. Some teams don't have that many in a season!
That's all 100% squarely on the coaching staff. Shows a lack of discipline and a lack of respect by the players for your coaches.

That right there should be enough for Burke to can DH. That, or the repeated last place finishes in recruiting.

And while I'm at it, why didn't Hazel call a TO on Jones (Knox) TD run that was called back? I still don't think he stepped out. DH should have been going crazy on the sideline wanting a review but he just had that stupid smile on his face of "aw shucks".

Of course, we fumble on the 1 so really, just did what bad teams are expected to do.

Purdue was not an overly penalized team in general, so I'd doubt it in sheer quantity.

However, I would not be surprised if we were up there in terms of percentage of our penalties being personal fouls.

Purdue is actually 3rd in the Big Ten in terms of fewest number of penalties. However, our penalty yardage per game was 9th, indicating more 15 yard penalties.

Here is how PU ranks among all 127 FBS teams in terms of penalties, penalty yards, and yards/penalty:

T-37 fewest penalties
T-61 fewest penalty yards
7th highest yards/penalty at 9.95 yds/pen (worst team is 10.33 & best team is 7.11).

I can't find actual personal foul penalty stats, but these numbers do seem to indicate PU's penalties tend to be big ones.

Along these lines, has Hazell said anything regarding punishment for intentionally stepping on an opponent's face mask?

Hazell is still around for one reason - Burke's utter distaste for buyouts. The head coach is always responsible for culture, and these personal fouls are ridiculous. We are a nice combination of lousy and poorly behaved. Somehow I am not sure this fits with Purdue's core values.

When the opponent is iu, it's 15 times up the steps of Ross-Ade for failing to break the face mask.

Why is no one bitching about Appleby getting hammered 5 ticks after making a handoff or getting speared on the ground just before his first interception -- a pair of no-calls? I'm glad our kids finally showed some fight instead of laying down for those smack dealers. We got called and they got away, riding their horse into the sunset.

They need to show some fight before the whistle blows, not after. I don't care if IU showed poor sportsmanship. I care when Purdue does.
