This says a lot about the perception of Purdue Fb at the national level imo.

Wilson is #2. Not looking good for the state of Indiana.

Heck, Iowa State and Texas will get new Coach before Purdue

yea, Charlie Strong is pretty weak.

Charlie Strong took an interesting approach today by shaking up his coaching staff one game in. If I were a Texas fan, I'm not sure how I would interpret that move. He is either a "man of action" who makes aggressive moves or "a terrible reactionary leader" who never had a plan and is now adjusting on the fly.

a move of desperation.

I see that Kent State made #3 in the ESPN "Bottom 10." They were bad last year too. DH did not build that team for the long haul. He had some good players and had a good year in his last year at Kent St. In music, they call that a 1-hit wonder!

Maybe so, but he also had a great pedigree being Asst HC at both tOSU (5 yrs) and Rutgers, among other positions at other stops.

IMO DH was a good hire with a solid background and a lot of potential. Now we just have to see how he plays out on the B1G stage. This season is crucial, IMO.

Yep, he's been at a lot of good gigs. So has Shoop. How's that pedigree working out for him?

If CDH doesn't work out, we need to hire Bo Pelini STAT.

I have not given up on DH, but if we don't get 5 wins this season my support may waiver.
I disagree about Pelini completely. In the new era of college football, offense is what wins games unless you can recruit a roster full of future NFL defenders (which isn't happening at Purdue). Pelini is a "play good defense and run the ball" mentality type coach. That's exactly what we have now in Hazell, and it's not working. We need an innovative offensive mind. A guy who can put kids in a position to compete versus top teams. Oregon wasn't anything special til Chip Kelly took over their offense, Baylor was a bottom feeder til Art Briles came along, same as Tiller here, and it's no coincidence that Auburn won a National Championship with Malzahn as an OC went fell to 3-8 in the 2nd year he was gone and he took that team to the Championship game the next year as HC. We have classrooms full of the best and brightest, we need a coaching staff of the same caliber.

If Pellini couldn't be successful at Nebraska, I see no reason why he'd be successful here. I have not given up on DH either. I think 5 is my floor as well. I think he stays if he wins 4.

I guess I would agree with the first part of this sentiment if Purdue was at least a 5 or 6 win team last year. Sounds elitist for the time being though with poor taste. If my team was coming off a bad year and facing a top 40 team (top 50 was incorrect but I may be wrong), away game on top of that, but we played tight till the end, I dunno, just me but I wouldn't have placed him at number 1 but definitely start warming the seat up. He has to produce this year for you guys, if games are played as hard as last sunday, his team will.

While I wish Purdue would/could recruit better....Hazell has done a decent job the past 3 years of brining kids to Purdue that actually want to be here and are decent, coach able football players too. Look at Interior DL....seems to me we are keeping the legacy of good DTs going. Look at LB....they are all young and are pretty good.

WRs have turned a corner and were consistently catching balls last week. RBs look to not be missing much from 2 talented guys last year. OL looks to be monstrous....average vs. the pass rush but they'll be able to get push vs. most teams we play. There are plenty of things on the up and up for this program....it's just that this past game made our gameday coaching very evident as the main culprit.

Whoever decided to go 2 deep shell and CBs 10+ yards off the ball on Marshall's last drive last weekend should be fired. No exceptions. Fresh off an INT from tight zone coverage....we put the impetus on our weakest D link (DEs) to get a pash rush, we don't and get picked apart.

Whoever decided to 2x consecutively on 3rd and short to not only throw, but go DEEP....they should be fired. I can understand a short pass or run/pass option on 3rd down.....but a deep ball, when we are moving the ball at will on the ground and having decent success in the short pass game at the time? Inexcusable.

That's the stuff where even if you have the most talented team out there, if you keep calling games like that you're going to lose unless you have a team of NFL pro bowlers who can cover your bad calls, and Purdue is never going to have that. I've said it all along that I have confidence in the staff to build the program up the right way, but very little confidence in their game day coaching. Too many old school, stick in the muds! At this point, the only guys i'd want to keep around if we fired Hazell would be Marcus Freeman and Gerard Parker.

I haven't given up totally on CDH yet but Shoop I have. The playing not to lose...again... against Marshall was finally it for me.

To me, if we keep making the in game decisions like we did this weekend....we won't make a bowl. IF we don't make a bowl, Shoop should be fired. IF Shoop isn't fired, than Hazell is the problem and he should be fired. I think we finally climb out of the bottom 25 in total offensive production this year....but not by much....and what's telling is that it will still be worse than Nord's offenses.....and everybody wanted that guy GONE.

I also think that lack of talent/depth WAS a valid excuse for poor performance in 2013/14 but not THE excuse. I think we had 3ish win talent in 13, and 5ish win talent in 14 and 7ish win talent in 15. It's clear evidence the team is getting better....but the coaches have to stop holding us back at some point. Would be a shame to have a potential 10 win team and only squeak out 6 or 7. THAT would be a whole lot like the late Tiller years!

Our biggest problem is quaterback play on my opinion

Outside of a few throws early, he was pretty good. It was only until his back was to the wall (2 minute drill situation, having to gain 40+ yards) that he looked that bad. Playing conservative/playcalling on both sided of the ball put him in that position. A lot of good from AA, but a little bad....and the little bad was enough that it carried the day.

Pelini was successful at Nebraska. He won 9 or more games 7 straight seasons. The only other two programs that can say that are Oregon (Kelly, Helfrich) and Alabama (Saban). I'm not saying that he's the correct hire, but he wasn't fired for lack of production. He was canned because he pissed off boosters and the administration with a lot of his comments. Seemed to me he simply wore out his welcome kinda like Jim Asshat up in Ann Arbor did in SF.

Never winning more than 9 games in 7 seasons is not considered successful by Nebraska fans. If pelini had been going to BCS games, his behavior would have been overlooked, sort of like the big jackass down south.

unacceptable results. who would be in favor of paying this staff if the money was coming out of your pocket?

Hope springs eternal I guess. BTW again .. Shoop operates within Hazell's system. Acting as if Shoop operates independently from Hazell is nuts,
You need to get over the love affair with Hazell to get at the root cause for the performances. The 600 pound gorilla in the room that no one is talking about is how a coach delivering 4 wins over 2 seasons, is recruiting only 2 and 3 star players, not making substantial changes all the while pulling in a substantial salary is NOT on the hot seat. That in my opinion is the real story here...

I think the Austin Appleby we say at Marshall with 4 picks was a perfect example of what is wrong. Yes, it is coaching, especially "game day" coaching. But specifically, if I ever saw a guy who could benefit from a good QB coach it was Austin. He has the arm, but needs some better coaching.

Then u look at him vs. ISU and he is a completely different QB. Today's game showcased his arm, especially that beautiful throw to the end of the end-zone. One of the best throws ever. If the version of our QB shows up weekly, it will be a fun season.

But the bottom line is whether we hire a pro from the SEC with a winning record, or a rookie with one winning season under his belt, unless the team shows improvement year to year, as measured by win/loss, then he should be gone.

a QB coach would correct AA throwing motion for sure. He drops down his left shoulder down a lot when he throws, usually shoulders are kept horizontal when throwing.
