Defensive Coordinator Candidate Pool

hard to work up a wish list since that really isn't how this type of thing works. Brohm will reach out to who he knows.

I think Holt will probably end up the guy.

If it isn't Holt. You look at someone like DeRuyter. I think its a good thing when you can get someone that has DC and HC experience.

John Shoop - he is an expert at shutting down offenses

I know he doesn't have coaching experience, but I'm guessing Woodson would be a great recruiter. If not DC, I'd like to see him on the staff.

I think a lot of rational Purdue football fans would love to see Woodson back at Purdue in a coaching capacity. Woodson, considered in the top 3 of most rankings of best DB's in NFL history, would be invaluable and obviously still has a deep sense of love and responsibility to the program. As I have long said: 'Anyone can be a Hoosier, but you choose to be a Boilermaker.' If you get the play on words without it being explained, it's probably because you are a Boilermaker.

Greg Jackson would be a great DC. He did a great job at Michigan and was a candidate for the DC job before they hired Don Brown. He coaches DB's for Dallas. Would be a great hire as DC at Purdue. Not sure if there's any connection with Brohm. Doesn't always matter if theres a personal connection though.

Every defensive coach he had at western Kentucky has been a defensive coordinator before except the tackles coach, and he has a good resume himself. Cassity and Holt were coordinators at really good programs. It's an impressive staff especially for a cusa. My bigger concern is how good of recruiters these guys are, as they seem like good field coaches.

I'll be good with hires unless we have a fanbase coming to us and talking bad about them (John Shoop/Ross Els).

He's never been a DC. Never coached in college. And was one of the dumbest HC's ever in professional football (coming from a 49ers fan). I honestly believe he doesn't knows Xs and Os well enough to call a defense. Why would you want that? Hire him as LB coach, sure. But scheming for another team's offense, let's ask Mike....

If you want to hire a failed former 49ers HC to run a defensive, I'd take Mike Nolan everyday over Singletary. He's a good DC and has actually spent time in college coaching.

I can't believe no one has called for the return of Spack yet.
I've seen people and would love to have him, but he's been passed over 3 times now. Plus, I don't see him going anywhere unless it's for a HC job. I wouldn't in his shoes. I'd think if he keeps being successful a MAC program will be making that call sometime. Just not enough openings this year.

I think it's a very intriguing idea that could make a lot of sense for everyone.
Spack is soon to turn 55 and has been at ISU for 8 years. If he were going to get picked up by a FBS school it probably would have happened by now. Spack went 6-6 this year, and there's no guarantees with the future. There are at least a couple FCS guys who would be hired ahead of him, and none of them got FBS jobs this time around. He might sooner land one of those jobs by turning Purdue's abysmal defense around.
Purdue could easily double his salary. He could help CJB get acclimated to Purdue and build his regional network.
Now with that said, there may be too much pride and bad blood, but with a new AD maybe it's time to bury the hatchet.
