David Blough makes cut day and released this a.m.

Good player, far better person...hope that he finds a new home...too good to not be on a roster. Disappointed for him about what happened, but, also know that he will not be deterred.

Agree with your sentiment. Hope a good GM and team picks him up and he can help them make positive strides forward.

I wonder who the Lions think they can get now that will be better than David?

They picked up Sudfield.

Hard to know if that is an improvement or not, and, the fact that they feel that it is probably says that Blough was not in the right (or, at least best) place for him anyway, as disappointing as that is for him I am sure.

It sounds like Detroit intends to sign Blough to the practice squad, which wouldn't be a bad idea considering he knows the team and the system.

I don't know if Sudfeld is an upgrade. He's bounced around the league for several years without getting much playing time. I know the Lions have been dissatisfied with their backup quarterback situation. Campbell sounded like he was ready to explore other options after the Pittsburgh game. Who knows, maybe just being a new face is preferable to keeping a guy who has an 0-5 record as the starter and didn't appear to distinguish himself this preseason.

Seems strange that the Lions didn't make a qb move in the off-season if they knew this was an issue. If something happens to Goff next week will they really hand the keys to a guy who just showed up and has only played in a handful of NFL games? I don't know.

Yes, he's likely a multi-millionaire at this point.

Good for him. Have we had better players and QBs players yen Blough? Sure. Although he was a damn good one. More likable? Not for my money

I'm not sure I'd say life altering money yet. A great start to career earnings no doubt though.

I'm trying to figure out how he only made $50K in 2020. He was on the active roster for a while in 2020.
With a good money manager and smart investments he would never have to work again. He's not a gazillionaire, but a million + (I'm sure he has sponsorship money) is still enough to set yourself up for life.

Looks like he's made about $2mil thus far including his guarantee this year. Not a tax specialist, but I'm assuming he's paid a substantial amount in taxes and also a percentage to his agent.

He'd really have to make some savy investments in my opinion to never work again and be comfortable.

You are forgetting taxes, agent's cut. etc. I doubt he is set for life.

Hes a fringe player. Great guy, hope he gets into coaching, but he was maxed out and was a backup on a historically bad team. That tells you more about him than them.

If he lived frugally he’d have a personal wealth of over $1m. He can buy nice his and her cars, have a very nice $500k house with no mortgage, work at Costco 40 hours a week, and live comfortably the rest of his life. It’s all relative.

He was always underrated/underappreciated...and, he is better than a number of backup QBs on rosters...heck, he may even be better than Sudfeld for that matter.

He was never going to be a star in the league, but, he is good enough to be on a roster. He was a better college QB than Etling, and, Etling is still playing (or was).

I don't exactly feel like the Lions are any sort of geniuses when it comes to QBs...they could never win as an organization with Stafford, and, then were dumb enough to trade him...for Goff. Thus, not exactly sold on the idea that they know what they are doing.

Put a chunk into an income annuity and it makes more than he'd need to ever have to grind like us Schmucks. :)
Giving a shout out to myself & advice to any younger PURDUE grad:
***For the record, I'm retiring at 56.5 yrs young in November, thankful for health and good company retiree medical benefits. No debts, great savings in 401k and thankful for a company pension allowing this to happen. My advice, minimize debts, save into 401k as much as you reasonably can while still trying to cover all your expenses including having a yearly vacation. Get a CFP in a strong financial institution like Fidelity or Northwestern Mutual Wealth Management. Create a plan and visit it annually is very good advice.
My Purdue degree was Engineering, but a Financial Mgr took me under his wing 32+ yrs ago and gave me stern fatherly advice. I listened, and I'm thankful for it. My wife also was a very good bookkeeper and made this all happen as well.***
Going to the game tomorrow night with less worries on my mind due to the news above!

So you’re projecting him to have 350k after house and cars. Figure 2% for
Dividends that gives you $7k a year if you don’t touch the principle. Baller

2% dividends? Thats terrible. 10 year treasuries are over 3% and he could go more aggressive, I get my investors 6-15% based on the risk.
Either way When you don’t have a car payment or mortgage you can easily live off a $36k wages working 40 hours a week for each spouse with good healthcare benefits working at a place like Costco. That’s more than the average household income in the us and Without a mortgage and car payments.

2% is what spy pays which is why I used it.

I wouldn’t hold bonds if you gave them to me.

BTW, David is an outstanding young man!

$36k with a $500k house and 2 nice cars ain't gonna cut it. Property taxes, hazard insurance, health insurance, utilities, etc. Pretty much no way you could get by imo.

One playoff win in 65 years proves this, though they didn’t really trade Stafford for Goff. They traded Stafford for two firsts and a third, and accepted Goff back in return so the trade would work cap wise.

Goff is probably just a placeholder until they draft their QB of the future, unless he really shows something this season.

She might have done well in her own right. No idea if she received anything from her international competitions.
He should go tryout for his favorite team. Dak ain’t gonna make it thru 17 games with that mess of an O-Line.

I'm very sorry to hear that. Dementia runs through my wife's family as well. Best wishes, and I hope the two of you can enjoy the time you have together.

i-bonds paying 9.62% now. With some conditions ($10k limit, interest changes every 6 months, must hold for 5 years of forfeit 3 months' interest), but still a good investment now.

So he can buy $20 grand worth and yield $1900. Big ballin
