Got shooped.Highly rated signeed, transfer to LSU, had a nice 50 yard TD keeper for the Packers this weekend. Believe he was from Terre Haute? Don't remember if he got injured or just lost in the shuffle at Purdue.
Etling was actually talented. One year it was Etling, one year it was Appleby, both going south. Etling has bounced around the NFL for a few years, mostly on practice squads I believe. Patriots mostly?
Not sure what they could have done with Mostert. Hunt was the better college RB. Mostert didnt stick at WR.Schemes were sooo bad, this guy who has twice outran an entire NFL defense rushed for positive yards only 5 times in 13 games. He and Mostert were wasted talents.
Hunt I can get behind. Not sure what they could have done with Mostert. Hunt was the better college RB. Mostert didnt stick at WR.
Hazell did some dumb things with Mostert that year. Replaced him with BJ Knauf as primary kick returner and moved him to upback.Hunt I can get behind.
Dalyn Dawkins was getting more touches than Mostert in 2013.
Nobody ever did less with more than Hazell and Shoop (well, maybe the guy that hired them).Schemes were sooo bad, this guy who has twice outran an entire NFL defense rushed for positive yards only 5 times in 13 games. He and Mostert were wasted talents.
I was literally thinking the same...then, just chalked it up to 'Da Bears. How the hell was Shoop in the NFL?
Hazell/Shoop was as incompetent a combination as there could have been...Hunt I can get behind.

As bad as his X's and O's were, where things really went off the rails at Purdue was when he started seeing himself as this self-appointed player's advocate, seeding tension between the players and the coaching staff and administration. Getting everybody spun up with conversations about concussions and how much money was being made off the players. You just can't do that as a coach of 18-22 year olds and expect them to play all-out inspired football. As a coach he was a total mind-f#ck.I was literally thinking the same...then, just chalked it up to 'Da Bears.
The guy is a HS coach, which, is about the level that he seemingly always should have been at.
He has actually climbed down the career ladder.
He fooled a lot of people seemingly along the way though.
IMO, that was his wife as much as him.As bad as his X's and O's were, where things really went off the rails at Purdue was when he started seeing himself as this self-appointed player's advocate, seeding tension between the players and the coaching staff and administration. As a Bears fan since 1965 I can tell you that he was brutal. I and other Bears fans here told everyone that he wouldn't be any better at Purdue. How the hell was Shoop in the NFL?
I’m also a bears fan. When Hazell was hired, I was fully on board. He said all the right things and seemed to have a plan. Then he hired Shoop and all my hope and optimism went out the door.As a Bears fan since 1965 I can tell you that he was brutal. I and other Bears fans here told everyone that he wouldn't be any better at Purdue.
I have respect for Etling on how he took the abuse of some massive hits and sacks. He showed that he was a tough QB and football player.Generally I have great disdain for players that transfer out of Purdue. For Etling I have great respect because he hung in there a long time in the worst coaching regime in Purdue history. I hope he succeeds in the NFL!
