We all know what happened, but the question remains is how do you prepare a team for March with a coach who year after year can't consistently win against the low seeds nor can he pull off a win against a higher seeded team every now and then. Upsets happen and certain programs seem to get upset more than others - Arizona, Virginia, etc.

Maybe the losses to St Peters and Virginia are stuck in Painters head more than we think and carried over to the preparation for FDU. Could Painter hire Jay Wright as a March consultant?

That’s basically saying we need a new coach, without explicitly saying so.

He didn't write one single word that we didn't already know. This is without a doubt the low point in the history of our school. And, we can't blame anyone else for speaking the facts. We allowed him to remain on our sideline and do this. We've tolerated being in the cellar of the B10G and were to scared to move on. Sadly, we STILL have apologists that haven't seen enough. I'm baffled by this fear of moving on.

Like ones have mentioned, Purdue will have a chip on its shoulder until next year's tournament. Hopefully painter and his staff are feeling embarrassed and make necessary adjustments.

No, Bobinski hire Jay Wright so CMP can go work for ESPN...

Probably because the BOT and AD don't put nearly as much focus on the tournament as many fans do. Win the majority of games; good attendance numer; be in contention for winning B1G; don't cheat and graduate your players. I think those are their priorities and the primary reason Paint isn't going to be fired.

How sad. The entire nation fully knows that the NCAA is like the Super Bowl. At the start of the year every single program has that as the goal. No serious program thinks about anything other than a deep run in the tourney. It's like the Godfather of sporting events. Those who minimize the event are only trying to excuse failure. They resign themselves to losing. It's easier to just take it and then act virtuous because you don't care.

Chip on its shoulder? Like after the Ark-LR loss? Or like after the North Texas loss? Or like after last year's St. Peter's loss?

This team was arguably the MOST motivated and together Purdue team in years, and not only did they not get it done, they suffered the most embarrassing loss in program history. Maybe in NCAA history.

The "chip" doesn't mean anything as long as stubborn, lost Painter continues to recruit and implement an outdated, has-been style of basketball.

He's earned his firing. Fire him, or move him into basketball ops.

While I'm pretty sure it's not their priority, I'm also sure Painter has monetary incentives for tourny success. Maybe he doesn't care about money?

Those should be the priorities, not what a bunch of freaking morons who worship at the feet of the mass media think. A team with two freshmen starting guards put three new trophies in the case, they dominated the Knight Tournament, dominated the Big10 to win it by 3 game and won the Big10 tournament that Purdue has only won once before. But somehow stupid people allow an upset loss to define a season in their feeble minds. I used to think it was mostly trolls that went on message boards and social media to bad mouth coaches and players when a loss happened, but I have changed my mind, a significant portion of the Purdue fanbase are idiots that have serious entitlement issues.

I grew up a Cubs fan and was always hoping they would win a WS someday, but not once did I ever feel that I was entitled to them winning one or let it bother me at all when they didn’t. Even when they did win one a few years ago, I was excited for a few days, but certainly didn’t start expecting it every year.

Sports for 99 percent of us is nothing more than a pastime and to let them rule your life to the point you want a person fired because your petty entitlement wasn’t fulfilled is quite possibly one of the most pathetic things I can think of.

This is just commentary and not directed at PurdueDave.

Supposedly they had a chip on their should from last years embarrassing loss to ST Peters.

Oh, and they were supposedly not happy with what the FDU coach said.

Painter won’t change anything. Guaranteed.

chip on the shoulder means they lose.... FDU coach caught on film giving us chip on the shoulder bulletin board material... Reality is CMP knows he is not a good coach which is why he dreads going into these big games....players get that vibe and have no confidence either...

Shouldn't they have already had the chip after losing to a 13 and 15 seed? Or does the chip only come with the worst loss in the history of the tournament?

2019 we were lucky play from Final 4
You mean the play when a Purdue "pure" shooter bricks a free throw (these are shots where you are unguarded, hence the name) that would have iced the game, Purdue commits a bad foul, and then an overmatched walk-on didn't have either the courage or ability to box out and grab a rebound on the other team's missed attempt?

U have no clue, we fouled on purpose up 3, which was the right move and a miracle happened for Virgy. That "pure" shooter shot us to the Elite 8 with an historic performance against Tenny. Don't make fun of him idiot.

3 Sweeet 16's, 1 Elite 8 in last 6 tourneys, 3 BT titles in last 7 years and a BTT title. Why do we tolerate that??????????????
