This is gonna be my comment on here any time we start to make fun of Tom Crean or any other coach in the Big Ten.
Yes, yes, let's make fun of Tom Crean. Show that video of him tucking in his shirt as Smith runs by. Or show that one of him kissing his son. Let's make fun of his tan. Let's do anything we can to ignore and divert ourselves from the reality that our men's basketball program under its present coach has become stunningly and terribly underachieving.
Crean has been to three Sweet Sixteens in the last five years; Painter has been to two in eleven years. Crean has been to two Sweet Sixteens in the last four years; Painter hasn't won ONE SINGLE NCAA GAME IN FOUR YEARS! Crean has won two Big Ten tiles in the last four years: Painter has never won a Big Ten regular season title, never. Without looking, I think Crean might have even won a game to two in the Cross Roads Classic. How many has Painter won in that classic?
I know, let's make fun of Fran Mc at Iowa. You know, Goofy Fran with his temper over at Iowa. You know, the Fran whose team swept Purdue last year. You know, Fran who has won two NCAA Tourney games in the last two years, as opposed to how many by Painter?
There are comments on here all the time about what a bad coach Groce is at Illinois, Groce has won a NCAA game in the last four years. One more than Painter and I don't think he has ever been DEAD LAST in the Big Ten.
The reality is that for all three of those, considering their schools and circumstances, none of them have really achieved anything at all worthy of note, but compared to Purdue's present coach, all three of those have been pretty impressive lately.
Here's an idea, until our coach wins an NCAA tourney game (or maybe a Crossroads Classic game), why don't we shut the hell up and quit making fun of other program's coaches. Why don't we look at the reality of the situation here.

Tell you what. You get our fans to stop the ridiculous "IU Sucks" thing during games against teams other than IU and I'll start to care about people making fun of some of the creepy mannerisms of Crean.
Yeah.. um.. no. I'm going to keep clowning Crean. That's got nothing to do with my feelings about the job Painter is doing.
Additionally, next time you feel like making fun of another school's coach for the way he looks/acts, just try to remember that we had GK as our coach for 20 years.
Wow, overreact much?? That was an awful lot of junk spewed out over a little comedy video. I think you might have some issues that could only be cured by some therapy (Jack Daniels). Relax and enjoy the upcoming season and don't take everything so seriously.
Nash: I don't know how old you are, but if you're over 30 you should remember all the grief PU fans got from other schools about Gene. It's all in fun and I think a couple of you are taking this way too seriously. You act like this is the first time one fan base made fun of another coach (it isn't). My cousin is a huge IU fan but even he says Crean is weird. They get it, I'm surprised you don't.
FWIW......I'll take Matt over any of those guys to run a program knowing that he's going to do it the right way.

I certainly wouldn't be concerned about Matta's limp or someone's hair or another eating a pizza during the game like Majerus, but Crean is one really, really strange bird and that doesn't change whether he coaches or not. Crean is Crean and he is not my problem and I'm not concerned with what he does ...unless he looks at me like he did Ryan. If IU likes him...more power to them. All coaches have their vices, but few are as weird as Crean and that has nothing to do with any coaches thinking he is not above board in recruiting. All that may be wishful thinking, but being weird is not...

There are a lot of false correlations in your essay, VH. People were making fun of Crean's antics and his tan even during the Baby Boiler days. It has nothing to do with Purdue's W-L record. And why are you bringing up other coaches in a thread about Crean? And Cordova? You are the one coming up with reasons to make fun of them, and then you try to attribute it to people on this board. Strange.
If this really bothers you as much as you say, I predict that you will continue to be frustrated. You will fail at shutting down fans making observations on a message board about rival coaches. Maybe Purdue will win big this year and it won't bother you as much.
Are you new to Purdue basketball? Painter coached the Big Ten champions in 2010.

I will make fun of anyone as weird and obnoxious as Crean regardless of Purdue's record. One has little or nothing to do with the other. Crean coaches at our rival school, or at least at the school that used to be our rival. Now it seems we compete more often head-to-head with MSU. It's pretty difficult to make fun of Izzo, so I guess we will have to settle (Settlers?) for making fun of Crean.

Gene was very well respected among his peers, and among all people connected to college basketball. Something Crean will probably never achieve. Gene never took his appearance or the comb over seriously, and would laugh along with those poking fun at it. I think you need to get over this poor attempt at some sort of political correctness, especially on this message board, or any other for that matter.
