credit to parker.

I think it's pretty obvious how much better prepared the team is under Parker. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to hold up for 4 quarters. Much of that is due to the talent discrepancy that is Hazell's legacy.
Parker is doing an good job, especially when you consider the crap sandwich he has been dealt. He has talent to work with on offense, but the defense has nothing.

The offense might have more talent than nothing but not much. Decent RB. OL is awful, receivers cannot get open and don't go get balls in traffic. QBs are not accurate but typically running for their life. Not a coach in the world could win with the talent on the field.

You're still the only one who wanted him to stay, Barney.

Don't really care that much to be honest. I will say that I was told how many benefits there were to making the move when we did and I questioned those at the time and from where I sit right now things look spot on.

I thought he inherited that from Hope?

Sure, after you re-frame your argument, you're always right.

What a loser you are.

They had nothing to lose by axing Hazell when they did. The team would not have fared any better with him today, if the last three and a half seasons were any indication. We're playing with 'house money' (or is it Hazell's money? :D) at this point.

He's a bumbling ****ing moron; only in his own mind does he make sense.

You are just butt hurt that we still suck in spite of your predictions of how much better we would be just by getting rid of Hazell when you wanted. As I said before, nothing significant has changed. And it hasn't and it won't until the next coach takes over.

Although nothing has changed in the win-loss column, I will say it's better to get outscored 28-0 in the last 20 minutes than the first. At least the past two games have been entertaining to watch for at least 2 or 3 quarters instead of being over in the first 10 minutes. Not sure if that will translate into anything meaningful attendance/recruiting wise this year, but I've watch the last two games in their entirely which was not the case for Maryland or Iowa.

The point of firing Hazell was not to think that the season would suddenly turn around and we were going to win a bunch of games. I don't think anyone expected that. The point of firing Hazell mid-year was for MBob to demonstrate that he was serious about making changes to the program, that he was willing to make the tough decision and the search process for the new HC could start immediately. Keep DH around until the end of the year just to fire him served zero purpose.
Gerard is the bookmark for the rest of the year but he won't get a shot at the HC job.
It was absolutely without a doubt, the right decision and I think 99% of the fan base was glad MBob pulled the trigger.
Not sure how you can disagree with the decision.

Firing him was an extremely easy decision. It's what most all the fans wanted. It made them happy even though it created no immediate tangible benefit. It didn't demonstrate anything to me in regards to Bobinski's ability to make a tough decision. Who we hire to replace him will demonstrate that. If the early termination aids that process, then so be it. It is the one potential benefit left on the table at this point. All the other "benefits" that people were throwing out there have not really shown up.

What 'benefits' are you referring to?
Do you think any fans expected the talent level or depth of this team to suddenly change just because DH got fired? Do you think fans expected the team to magically go on a winning streak?
I think what people wanted to see was some passion and fight, some enthusiasm and 'want to' from the team. I think they're getting that but the talent and depth (due to DH's piss poor recruiting) are such that competing with top 25 teams in the B10 is too high of a mountain at this point.

Agree with above posts

I suppose we could have kept dh2 out of spite, just so he could not collect the money while sitting on his couch?

In theory if he was kept and we did improve at year end, it could have even prolonged the inevitable firing one more year

But This season seemed lost before it began.
And to secretly conduct a search for the duration of an entire season with him still here?
Not sure how that would help more than hurt in the eyes of future potential candidates or the process itself

There were instances where people here cited the possibility of improved play or increased ticket sales as benefits to making the move now (which was 3-3 at the time with many suggesting they do it at 2-2 or 3-2) as opposed to later. I think those myths have already been debunked.

About all that's left is that helps with the actual search. I'm skeptical about that as well but we'll see what happens.

I think anyone with any sort of realistic expectations knew that they outcomes of games weren't going to change much, but they just wanted to see if the team were even prepared to start the game. I know there are no moral victories, but I think the team has come out in the first half much more ready to play under Parker. It may be as simple as getting them in the right mind set. I still think the talent and depth is too lacking to sustain it over 4 quarters but I think everyone knows we're preparing for the next coach. If we can somehow beat iu, then PU fans will go into the offseason happy.

Some did go a bridge too far with the ticket sales or whatever.. The only interest I had in the timing was how it would affect recruiting for 2017. The new coach needs all the help he can get coming out of the blocks with his first recruiting class.

-The question of how the Hazell commits would react was answered almost immediately and unanimously. The fact that there have been no defections says a lot.
Outcome: Neutral/Positive.

-One benefit of mid season firing would be if MBob were to jump on a "free agent" coach before other jobs opened up. Recruiting could ramp up immediately. This has not happened and it appears the search is going to run into the post season to include the currently employed.
Outcome: Neutral

-Whether Parker & Co. are mending any fences in state or elsewhere or are reaching out to players Hazell had nixed is not clear.
Outcome: Unknown

Obviously but I don't possibly see that happening. If we win another game, it will be because the team we're playing didn't show up (frankly, like the first half of the Nebraska and Penn State games) and I can't see that happening to IU in the Bucket game. If I had to choose one game where it could possibly happen it would be either Minnesota or Northwestern.

I wouldn't say they didn't show up. It was more like the coaches made the necessary in-game adjustments, and exploited the weaknesses. It's important to note that against Nebraska and PSU, Purdue played virtually mistake free football in the first half which in itself is actually some improvement from the past. Then the other teams adjusted, a few turnovers happened, and the train went off the rails per the usual. Same result ultimately but hey at least I'm staying for a full half of football.

I wouldn't say they didn't show up.

I would. They went into halftime and the coaches probably lit their team up and actually coached their team to take away the things that Purdue can do and then they came out in the 2nd half and did just that. It's what they should have and could have done from the opening kickoff but we obviously don't command enough respect to be taken seriously. If it were just things we were doing differently, it wouldn't be things that could be taken away from us that easily.
