Congrats coach

Any idea where this places CMP in terms of fastest to 300?? I tried looking yesterday, couldn't find anything and gave up.

I'm just wondering where on the list 300 wins places him? While Coach keady never made it to the Final 4, he was a great coach, and I know he must be proud of those he taught how to coach. As a teacher, and boy scout leader, I know I took great pride in my student's accomplishments.

It's expressed in number of games.....refer to page 12.

Haven't found one concerning youngest/age, but it could be extrapolated.

The stat BTN showed last night was Most Coaching Wins (active coaches)- first 14 seasons:

Sean Miller (346)
Dave Rose (312)
Matt Painter (300)

So next year when they look at Matt's 14 total years he will be around 320 for his 14 years and if you could have reversed the two years of budget issues he very easily could be first on the list

he would have had the same low budget every year prior to the increase (just produced in spite of then)

It's a great accomplishment, but I gotta call BS on that BTN claim. Where are Roy Williams, Jim Boeheim, Mark Few, John Calipari, Bob Huggins, Bill Self? Pretty sure all those guys had 300+ wins their first 14 seasons.

I don't disagree with you, FDB....there must be some exclusion they were intending but didn't express it well.....I think Williams had close to 400. I think it's for active coaches who haven't yet coached more than 14 seasons (something like that).....Rose is in his 13th year, Matt Painter in his 14th, and Sean Miller in his 14th.

Don't shoot the messenger....although feel free to beat him up a little....:)

I love it... "On the list of active coaches who have won 300 or more games in their first 14 years but have not yet exceeded 14 years of coaching, Matt Painter ranks #2 on that list." Somehow that doesn't have quite the ring to it. And if you're going to frame it, surely they could have found a way to exclude Miller!.. perhaps add "whose 14 years were at a single school" clause to knock him out? LOL

or 14 years and not under federal investigation...just sayin...

Yeah but those were in state kids while keady was coach and so it could be a full time job for him and the great group of in state players that were on the same aau I team except JJ

Roy Williams (first 14 seasons at Kansas): 388 wins @ age 52. Got to 300 wins in the 1998 season at the age of 49.
Jim Boeheim (first 14 season at Syracuse): 323 wins @ age 46. Got to 300 wins in the 1989 season at the age of 45.
Mark Few (first 14 season at Gonzaga): 374 wins @ age 51. Got to 300 wins in the 2010 season at the age of 49.
John Calipari (first 14 seasons at UMASS & Memphis): 337 wins @ age 47. Got to 300 wins in the 2004 season at age 46.
Bob Huggins (first 14 seasons at Akron & Cinncy): 317 wins @ age 45. Got to 300 wins at the same age.
Bill Self (Oral Robets, Tulsa, Illinois, Kansas): 312 wins @ age 45. Got to 300 wins at the same age.

Matt Painter (Southern Illinois & Purdue): 300 wins @ age 47. Likely could have gotten to 300 wins with on par success one year earlier at age 46 (average of 25 wins at Purdue minus three worst seasons).

Painter wouldn't make that final list. 13 years at Purdue + 1 at Southern Illinois

Good point. Let's go with the cheater clause.
Going by the cheater clause, I think the list I posted about would lose everyone except Few and Huggins...and I should put an asterisk next to Few since he coaches in a league with almost no depth or talent beyond his program and Saint Mary's and BYU.

Didn't Cincy lose scholarships and get put on probation for violations during Huggins' tenure there?

Don't remember that specifically but it might have happened. I do remember that he went several years without graduating a single player. He also recruited a lot of criminals and academic failures. He also had a DUI. At one point an alumni rented one of those airplane towed signs that said "Our coach has no morals" or something to that effect and flew it over a football game.

Having said that my brother works at WVU and says Huggy Bear is a genuinely nice guy.
