Just throwing this out there for people to see the conferences, outside of the ACC, compared next to each other.

I think the B1G isn't down when compared to other conferences...rather it is down when comparing it to itself over the last few years.

Part of it is perception based on name recognition. The big name teams are down. iu, msu, osu, mich... so that's part of it and I agree it's only down compared to previous performance, not with the other mediocre conferences.

I personally don't think we are down. Like Topsecret said we have different teams that are at the top this year than the usual "named" schools other than us. Just because we have other schools with better records doesn't mean the conference as a whole is weaker.

All will be answered in the NCAAT. The more B1G schools that make it farther, the more we will prove the anti-B1G 'experts' are biased and wrong.

This is where I think some surprises will happen. I vaguely remember a year some what like this one where people thought the conference sucked and then like 6 of the 8 teams made it to the second weekend of the tourney.

The problem is that if the selection committee views the BIG as down and the RPI shows the same, then the BIG gets seeded lower, has harder 1st and 2nd round games and thus more likely has more losses and it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Anybody really be surprised if Big10 puts 3 or 4 teams in Sweet 16? Crazy season I wouldn't discount. Hope team from WL one of those.

According to sagarin the B1G has 72 top 50 wins. Big east has 52. PAC 12 has 27. SEC has 36.

Just goes to show you how the media is full of crap.

It's not down, there's just not a team that seems like a surefire Final Four pick near the top (Purdue and now Minnesota seem like the top picks to potentially make a run like that).

Other than Rutgers (Nebraska is a little bit better than their record indicates; they've tailed off lately but did improve in B1G play after a poor non-conference showing), there's not any surefire "bad" teams in the league this season.
