This is not just a response to Walker leaving ( if, in the end, he does) but that of course prompted it. And I am not necessarily complaining about the new landscape or, should I say, the three rings with a pole in the middle. It is what it has become. Cases in point. I live in Champaign as a Purdue fan so get to read about both circus acts. Groce has had a player fake putting on a Illini hat before committing to Kansas and had a solid PG switch at the 11th hour to Louisville and be the PG who played against MSU today. The Illini are full of transfers, have had two significant 5th years, have a post guy who is in JC now and was the MAC frosh of the year at W. Mich before he switched to Illinois. And on and on.
I do not have to remind anyone on this board of the Purdue saga over the last two years, the gift of Octeus being the most impactful by far.
So here we are going into next season and we don't know if our starting center will be back and we don't know if one of our sophs might transfer, and we don't know if we might get one or two 5th years. In other words, we don't really know what roster we will even be.
And is is not that way all over basketball, nonwithstanding the pro teams like Kentucky with their high rated operas. '
So if you are a fan, expect the unexpected and you can be sure that will happen.
It sucks that a kid committed for so long, taking us out of the pg hunt and that he said we were too slow, which is a real knock on our program. But it does open the door and the fat lady has not sung yet. We could get a better guard or we might even get a veteran transfer who could give us a couple of good years. With social media, everyone knows that Walker left and some are even saying hmmmm already.
So get ready to get back on the rollercoaster whether we like those rides or not.
