I think everyone can agree that if Brohm did not graduate from UL none of us would be worried at all about him leaving. If that is the ONLY benefit that the UL job will offer over Purdue (it is) than I believe Brohm will still be coaching at Purdue next year. And how much of a benefit is it really? Louisville already fired Brohm once, back in 2009 when he was OC there, Brohm was 39 at the time just to put that in perspective for everybody. Petrino graduated from UL and we all know how that ended. Things can turn sour quickly in the coaching world. Brohm has a great relationship with our excellent AD and president, he has universal fan support, and he is recruiting at a high level. Why leave and put all that in jeopardy?

It is a lot more than his alma mater. Louisville is home for him and his family. I don't know any more than the next person here, but I would not doubt moving home has got to be appealing to anyone, especially with his oldest going into high school next year with his family's connection to Trinity. He also knows the state of Kentucky recruiting very well. I hope he stays and there are lots of good reasons for him to do so, but I sure would not put money down on it.

Petrino didn’t graduate or attend UofL and Brohm and his family are fixtures in Louisville. This isn’t as simple as you seem to believe it is.

Out of curiosity (genuinely just a question) because I gather you're a Louisville fan: if Brohm tells Louisville he won't discuss the opening until after the season like he did at WKU, do they wait for him?

If the UL admin do not wait there will be hell . . . to . . . pay.

The "fans" think this is "in the bag." If you doubt me, look at the clowns infesting this forum, and what they're posting

They think he's the 2nd coming for them.

One huge thing to consider in all of this......we have now a top rated facility here! This is a great vehicle for recruiting! Louisville will be cash strapped going after Brohm, especially with all their buyouts! Their facilities don't compare to what we offer, negative for recruiting these days! He is only 2h hours from Louisville, thats pretty damn close to home for family and friends.........plus my GUT feeling is he will tell Louisville 'NO" for now! Timing is not right for him, plus I think he wants to finish what he started here. Maybe in five years or so down the he may make the jump. Good chance that job will open up again down the line....

Just when I think no online fanbase can be worse than iu’s or msu’s, another one feels the need to one up them.

To that, I agree. And just because Brohm's family are "fixtures" in Louisville doesn't necessarily mean Jeff wants to return home, either - especially when UL has become a dumpster fire.

Here is an excerpt from a 2/12/2009 article from the cardchronicle.com about what happened to Jeff after the 2008 football season as offensive coordinator under Steve Kragthorpe:
"Brohm wasn't technically fired, he was offered a 'non-coaching role' with the program, an offer the man Nick Saban had wanted to call his plays at Alabama politely declined. Instead, Brohm will direct the quarterbacks under former Cardinal head coach Howard Schnellenberger at Florida Atlantic."

And this Q&A with Jeff, from the 11/13/08 edition of the South Florida Sun Sentinel (note the date):
"Q: When did you start discussions with FAU about a job?
A: We have been in contact for almost a month now. I was looking to leave Louisville, and just wanted to talk with [Coach Schnellenberger] about (the) situation they had there. We stayed in contact, and decided that would be the place to go. I have a great deal of respect for coach, and learned a lot playing for him."

The point I raise with those excerpts is that Brohm could have stayed at UL in a non-coaching role, and awaited the inevitable firing of Steve Kragthorpe - which happened only one year later - with the possibility of being promoted to the head coaching job. Instead, he chose to leave his offensive coordinator role at Louisville within the Big East Conference to become a QB coach for the little known Florida Atlantic University of the Sun Belt Conference under Howard Schnellenberger.

The point is that his loyalty at that time was more to Schnellenberger than it was to UL, as a dumpster fire. Clearly, Jeff was much more interested in developing his career by following his former coach - even to the point of taking a lesser job at a lesser program.

In addition, when the UL job did open up the next year, even though Brohm had been the UL offensive coordinator the year before, he was not even mentioned in the potential list of candidates for the UL head job. Instead, the job went to Florida's defensive coordinator, Charlie Strong. (So much for all the talk about Jeff Brohm and the First Family of Louisville Football back then, huh?) I don't know Jeff, but back then, it might have have been a pretty nasty slight not to be given even a sniff by his now-doting alma mater - which was a dumpster fire at that point in need of a savior.

Kind of like now, huh?

So after Jeff was snubbed back then, what makes you so sure he is willing to drop a very promising situation at Purdue - where he is clearly cherished - just to go back to the school who had no use for him once Kragthorpe was fired? Just because he and his family "are fixtures in Louisville"??? Seems a bit trite, don't you think?

Look, Brohm may surprise all of us at Purdue and go back to UL after the season - and if he does - we will wish him the best of luck as we deal with our inevitable heartbreak. But again, considering the history, I agree with you that this isn't as simple as anyone believes! Including you.

I think Louisville used to be his home, and it was where he grew up. I think he and his family live in West Lafeyette now, and his home is there. His kids go to school in West Lafeyette, his wife shops there, and I think he has a job there. West Lafeyette is his home now.

Thanks! Nice read! I think he is at the point in his coaching career that he will be looking to parlay his success to moving up to bigger and better opportunities in coaching, not stepping backwards.

Would they wait 11 days? I'm sure he's already told them he won't have any discussions until then. But I wouldn't think that would limit his representatives from talking to them.

He was never going to stay at UofL in a non-coaching situation. No one who understands coaching would suggest that as even a remote possibility. And the guy running the show has changed, which changes the dynamics. You're working way too hard to conceive of half-baked scenarios where he won't be interested, but that's not realistic. He may not leave Purdue, but suggesting the pull won't be strong is wishful, at the very best.

Lol. If you're a Purdue grad and you attend graduate school elsewhere, are you no longer a Boilermaker? Your "logic" makes no sense is reeks of desperation. By the way, I hope he stays.

At WKU he wouldn't talk about it until after the bowl game, so way more than 11 days if we win 1 more game...

I don't understand the "desperation" comment. I have nothing to do with the situation. Coach Brohm will make his decision without reading my comments here.

I was just pointing out the obvious (frequently required when dealing with slower folks). I am a boilermaker, but my home is not in West Lafeyette, just as Brohm is a cardinal but his home is not in Louisville. It's in West Lafeyette.
