God-Tier: Herman or any successful P5 that we can hire away.
Tier 1: P.J. Fleck/Les Miles
Tier 2: Jeff Brohm/Craig Bohl/Chris Klieman/Willie Taggert/etc.
Tier 3: Greg Olsen/Skip Holtz/Brock Spack, any unknown with unimpressive career.

Herman isn't coming here and his names hasn't even been thrown around at all by anyone with any information. Herman is going to LSU, Baylor, Texas, North Carolina, or any other big time gigs that might come up (Oregon is also a distinct possibility).

Les Miles has to be considered a successful P5 coach...he has a national championship and never lost more than 8 games at LSU.

Willie Tagert's name hasn't been thrown around at all but I wouldn't be surprised if he has been contacted and interviewed considering a report came out that roughly 15 coaches have been interviewed.

Of the coaches you listed, the likely candidates are: Fleck, Miles, Bohl, Olson, and Holtz. I can't honestly see Spack being hired and more than likely he was reached out to because some one in the AD or the BOT is throwing their weight around.

Well for one, Tom Herman is not in "God Tier" because he only has TWO seasons. We don't know what his recruiting is like. Darrell Hazell had a magic season as well. God tier is Nick Saban, Pete Carroll, etc.

I am not sure you can put P.J. Fleck in the same tier as Les Miles. You have a title on your resume, 200 games, and a 70% win percentage, you are the top tier. That said, would he come to Purdue or weigh his options?

I think with this layout Fleck is right with Brohm, Bohl, etc. Career winning percentage of these: Fleck-28 wins, 57%; Brohm-28 wins, 74%; Bohl-118 wins, 69%. Troy Calhoun the one who is not too young, not too old has 75 wins, 59%.

I would put the former Tiller guys in Tier 3 because they truly know what they are getting into. I think that is why Tiller was successful- he worked here and knew the situation.

Holtz in tier 4 just because he could not win at USF which is a concern. He does have 118 wins, but 56%.

We will never know how many interviews they did but I respect that Bobinski made the change when it was time and has at least done his due diligence on the hire. I think any of these guys will do a decent job. Holtz maybe has a 6-6 ceiling. Miles may get us to 10-2 some day. The rest somewhere in the middle.

IMO if a coach is hired this weekend it's Miles..Calhoun..Olson..or Holtz. Fleck has the ego to wait on better options and will want to coach his team to seasons end. If it isnt Miles I hope for a surprise hire like Montgomery or Brohm.

We need a guy who has turned things around at a bottom-feeder school. Greg Schiano did it at Rutgers, Matt Rhule did it at Temple.
Temple and Purdue both have the same number of College Game Day stops....let that sink in for a moment.

Also, NDSU has more Game Day stops as a FCS school.

I think Bo Pelini would be a very good hire for Purdue.

If he couldn't play nice with Nebraska boosters, he wouldn't like ours.

Nebraska is a whole different animal. Husker football is the epicenter of their lives. He had some issues, but I think the expectations are totally out of whack with reality. You could do a lot worse.

Willie Taggart has a game in Florida Saturday, but this afternoon was in Bowling Green, Ky, where he coached before USF.

Did he interview today?

How about you for Tier 4! What's the point of this stupidity of putting candidates in tiers? Like you'd know a good coach from a ham sandwich.

Bonz, I don't mind the tiers. It's the tears I'm worried about if we hire the wrong guy.

No one wants to hire the wrong guy -- but no one knows who is, or isn't. And we won't for a few years. Meanwhile, it's not constructive to brand the new coach as something less than #1.

Agree. Whoever we hire will be an upgrade from DH1 or 2. Excited to get the news.

I'm just putting my excitement into tiers.
1 is who I really want
2 is who I would be okay with
3 is crap hires, kill any excitement I had for a new coach at Purdue.
God-Tier is like Purdue winning a NC/Cubs winning WS excitement.
