Looked like bama was going to win. Nice to see some new team win. Congrats to clemson

It's ironic that all year I kept hearing Purdue posters use the excuse of lack of depth for our losses and our 4th quarter defense collapses. So what did I hear tonight for Alabama's loss? There was a lack of depth on their defense. Yup,, a team made completely of 4/5* athletes uses lack of depth as an excuse.

The greatest championship game of all time? No. but it had a great ending.

In my estimation, of the games I have viewed...and every one since there has been a championship playoff, this was the greatest championship game of all time. Name one that had a greater finish than this one! It's nice that Purdue had some small connection with Dabo this year, in spite of our poor season. We can learn something from him. It took him eight years to build his team. It all began with his faith and determination that they could do it. Clemson is in the middle of SEC and southern football country. Tough competition. Clemson is a city of around 15,000 people in upstate SC, an agri and engineering school...land grant, similar to Purdue. But their fans are fanatical. I lived there for seven years...was there when Dabo took over for Tommy Bowden. Dabo has great passion and is an unbelievable recruiter. This is how he exceeded Tommy, but it developed over time, not immediately.

Is Coach Brohm the next Dabo Sweeney? By the way, who names their kid Dabo?
I think I read or heard somewhere that Swinney's little brother tried to refer to Swinney as "that boy" but pronounced it "da bo" or something like that, and a nickname was created.

BTW, love the pic of Tony Jones. One of my all-time favorite Boilermakers!

Personally, I think the OSU-Miami game is one that will be hard to top.

Clemson ran 99 plays to 66 for Alabama. Tide D ran out of gas.
glad Clemson won, they do know how to run those "legitimate" wr pick plays. Yes, Bama did run out of gas, not about lack of depth as they do have lots of talent. Sometimes the excuses you hear are bogus. Sometimes posters here say we are too young at positions. Look at psu, and that very young OL, still had a high powered O. During the Rose Bowl they said 66% o their team is made up of Fr. and Soph's. Have to recruit talented player.

I would have liked to have seen the Purdue verses USC game in the Rose Bowl with Greise verses O. J. Simpson. Notre Dame has also been in several classic championship games.

I believe Alabama this year and LSU, OSU and many other teams have disproven the myth that you need experienced players to make it to championship games. Alabama started a true freshman at QB, and it looked like he won the game until that final drive by Clemson.

watching saban react to those was priceless.
does brohm utilize that much also?

figure we might see a slight change or rule emphasis on that next year since it was vs mighty bama and so noticeable/effective

I just hope their QB is still on the draft board when my boo bears make their first round pick - I like him ! Strong arm, accurate, quick release and can pick up a first down with his legs.

PS after watching the Bama defense target the heads of Clemson's best players, I am tickled pink that they lost ! ! What the H are they teaching their kids ? - Must be getting the kids that used to go to Miami. If they think that kind of play reflects well on their program they should go strike up a tripping discussion with Duke's basketball team. Makes it EASY to root against both of them.

OJ was not yet at USC when Griese led the Boilers to the Rose Bowl Championship.

Hate to say it but it looked like Bama needed Lane Kiffin.
How can you justify that statement? They score only 24 pts last week against a totally out manned Wash team.........score 31pts against a very strong Clem team.........scored enough to win the game......def just didn't do their job.

It wasn't on the defense. Offense couldn't stay on the field and give the d a break. There isn't a defense anywhere that can be on the field for 99 plays and be effective

Stayed on the field enough to score 31 pts......Def didn't get enough 3 and outs......sorry, it was on them!

my bad. you were right. I forgot, OJ played his first 2 years at a Juco college. he played in the Rose Bowl the following year against that team whose name shall not be mentioned in this forum.

A statement that was made today as part of arm chair quarterbacking was kind of interesting. the Clemson coach said he was going for the victory and not a tie. if his receiver had not made that catch, would he have followed his gut and gone for it? or gone for the tie?

he says he was going for the TD and the victory regardless. Do you believe him? if you were him, and that pass failed, would you have tried again? or gone for the FG? the clock was stopped with enough time for one more play. Personally, I would have gone for the tie and taken my chances in overtime.

Dabo trusted his quarterback. He had the option to run or pass. He was going for the win. Whether he would have second-guessed if the pass was dropped we'll probably never know. He took the risk of going for it with six seconds left. Watson could have been sacked.
