CBS evening news...

I wonder how many different places he was moved around to before Roosevelt Barnes was given guardianship and took him to Fort Wayne. I think Swanigan was born in Indianapolis, but lived in Salt Lake City, Utah and somewhere else (can't remember) for awhile as well.

I'm just curious: how did Barnes learn about Caleb and meet him?

I read somewhere I think, that Rosie coached Caleb's older brother at some time.

Caleb's older brother contacted Barnes who he knew from being coached by him.

From what I've read, Carl was highly touted, signed with a school down South but had his career cut short by an injury.

I found Carl's Rivals recruiting page. I guess he was in the 2005 class:

I think he got in some trouble and ended up losing an eye (or something like that) after getting shot. I would say that he might have filled a need for Purdue's 2005 class but they already had Carl Landry (they thought he might play all of '05-'06) and Marcus White (Matt Kiefer and Gary Ware were seniors). The program sure went through a lot of bigs in a short amount of time in the mid-to-late 2000's (Chris Booker, Ivan Kartelo, Ije Nwankwo, Ware, White, Landry, Dan Vandervieren, Johnathan Uchendu (RIP), Nemanja Calasan, Chris Reid).

has a story on about Swanigan.... Tune in now.

Wow, thanks for letting us know. My wife and I both watched it and we both teared up. Hell, my wife usually only gives a sniff and a promise to my Purdue passions but she said she was so touched by the story. She said "how can you not love Rosey and Biggie after this." Now I'm sniffling and emotional. Damn it, Janet.:) and my wife's name is Brenda.

Have you all not watched his 19 minute story Purdue put together on him?? It's really something and answers all this questions. I defy any Boilermaker to watch it and end up totally dry eyed. Link below...Please take time to watch if you haven't yet...

I never see this stated anywhere but Carl actually went to Lafayette Jeff for a little while when he moved here from Utah. I heard a story about him and Dustin Keller putting on a show in a dunk contest at practice once day. IHSAA declared him ineligible so he moved back I believe otherwise they may have grown up here in Lafayette. No idea if the other siblings or family members lived here with him at the time.

Glad you chimed in...never knew that.

I think as Purdue fans, and college basketball fans in general, we're all pretty lucky to have Biggie as part of the Purdue family.
Wish this kid nothing but success because he's not taking anything for granted.

You know it is a great story and a feel good story. It says a lot about both of them and I think Rosie even started to choke up just prior to placing his hand to his face and talk about faith in Biggie with a subtle line of linkage to faith in God. I shared various stories concerning him with many through email, Facebook or whatever. The link in this thread was supplied to a nephew whose whole family are Butler grads and his father one of the best to ever play for Butler. I sent it with a subject of "I think you will like this" to many and I always receive appreciation for the info on Biggie. My nephew said (every year he plays for a frat at Purdue..Delta Tau? by the engineering parking garage), "I did." "Thank you. I'm rooting for him even more now that I know what he's accomplished.". His battle is much more than just a battle that he won. Biggie should serve as an example that each and every one of us has untapped potential that we can always do better than we do, but it may require working harder than we think is possible, sacrificing short term pleasures for long term happiness and not giving up as easy as many of us do. Many of us are hindered by a comfort level that keeps us content. Every day in every way we wake up and "choose" to be a victim or a victor in so many areas of life. Biggie chose victor when many would have chosen victim and it is that spirit that means so much...and Rosie...Rosie was right there behind the scenes in his corner when it was Biggie and just Rosie with only his love and desire to help this young man that was different...this young man that doesn't understand the word quit.

It is stories like this that are much more meaningful than so many puerile infatuations of superficial interests that serve as distractions for those lacking an interest in substance and meaning. I pity the fools that can't grasp so many messages conveyed in Biggie's story as it essentially embodies the human spirit that made this country great, the spirit found on D-Day, the Alamo and most recently 911 to name just a few. I certainly can't speak for others, but every time I read another story on Biggie even when almost identical to a previous...I'm just a little better person.
