COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The routine hasn’t changed since a third-grade Carsen Edwards watched Gilbert Arenas shoot free throws.
Edwards started passing the ball around his waist before shooting each free throw. The Purdue guard followed that ritual when winning a free throw contest in Friday’s shootaround at Maryland’s Xfiniity Center.
He kept it up Saturday with the game on the line and 2.1 seconds left on the clock and the same arena full of 17,950 fans.
“It was so loud,” said Edwards, who said teammates Caleb Swanigan and Vincent Edwards assured him he’d make the free throws. “I was really nervous. Just being able to see them fall was a blessing.”
