Carmody video

Looks like a cross between DJ Bryd build & shooting and Chris Kramer's scrappiness. A lot to like.
Hadn't thought about Bryd...but saw a lof of Kramer in O and D...with perhaps a better stroke. "Video" shows a desire to drive more than shoot on the perimeter...physical, scrappy D reminded me of Kramer though.

Not impressed. Decent player but not someone that is going to take help Purdue to the next level. As Purdue fans, if we are satisfied with contending or winning a B1G title every now and then, then Carmody is the guy. If we want at least get to the Final 4 someday, then Carmody is not guy we need.

I'm always impressed when someone can make a hot take like this off of a four minute video. I don't know why coaches bother to scout players when they can just rely on people like you.

Oh, we're passing on Top 100 guys now? Did I miss something?

Yep, and Eric Hunter doesn't do anything for me either. Hunter is too strong hand dominant from what I've seen. I'm telling y'all our expectations need to be raised. I've been watching Purdue basketball for 40 years now. Seen enough Purdue conference championships. It's time to win it all guys. Top 100 ain't good enough. Painter is a decent coach but not good enough coach to win a championship with top 100 guys obviously. I always thought that, but this season's butt whooping by the hands of Kansas confirmed it.

I like he has that swagger and take charge attitude. He keeps the defender off of him because of his driving ability. If they back off, he nails a 3. He's like a dragon. If you let a dragon go baseline on you, he'll burn you.

Also, He said Thank you, Sir to me on twitter today. I like that too.

Entitlement isn't a recruiting strategy.

Hypothetically, let's say Carmody shuts down a Steph Curry type. Not good enough for ya? (only because a handful of posters have made the comparison). It's off season. What'd you think of Cardinal as a recruit?

If Purdue shouldn't go after Carmody and Hunter then who should they recruit??? Maybe no one is good enough it sounds from a few on here.

I know it is one video, my thoughts. Pretty good shooting form. So so ball handler. Right hand dominant. A lot of the driving into the lane was predominantly right handed. And most of the shots would get swatted in college. Only recall one time he made a move to the left. Need to see more video minutes devoted to defense to form an opinion. Just not enough in this one.

I predict him either a Boilermaker or Terp.....but with a huge lean to be a Boilermaker.

He looks like Purdue Pete to me in the eyes and love the young mans blue collar get dirty and play hard attitude.

Boiler Up!

That's all good to recruit Langford and Williamson, and I am sure Painter probably has contacted them, but you can't put all your eggs in one basket. And if Painter felt neither wanted to come to Purdue , he probably decided to quit going after them, and focused on others.

I was joking about Williamson plus we have never offered him. We have offered Romeo but believe we have backed off.

End of the day, one and dones like them don't fit into the system/program Painter has cultivated

Then perhaps Painter need to change his system. The status quo ain't workin'. I'm tired of this mediocrity. I thought the goal is to win national championships. Getting a player the caliber of Glenn Robinson or Biggie once every 15 years or so ain't going to cut it. If we are satisfied with contending for B1G championships or getting to the Sweet Sixteen then be happy with these Top 100 recruits. Or be happy with Painter's current system. I'm tired of being disappointed when the NCAA tournament comes around when have an early exit.

I remember when Grant Weatherford committed. At that time I asked the question, why him? A lot of folks on this board seemed excited, comparing him, again to Chris Kramer. How did that work out?

Kentucky was loaded with a starting 5 that are all going to the NBA - they won the SEC and got to the Elite Eight. One more victory than Purdue.

Duke had a roster loaded with 5 start players who are going to the NBA and they didn't make it out of the first weekend for the second year in a row.

Rosters loaded with one and done players do not guarantee National Titles.

If you are so disenfranchised with the way things have been going perhaps it is time to hop on another bandwagon.

Noticed that too. However, I believe between all the camps and visits CMP's staff is sold though -- seem to want him bad.

I don't think that trying to get a bunch of one-and-done guys is the solution for Purdue. That's something that only few school can do, for many reasons.
Imho the idea shold be to follow the Villanova model. They won a NC with guys that were 42, 57, 74, 84, 85 and 95 on the Rivals ranking, all 4 star, plus Brunson, who was the only 5 star of the team. They recruited talented and though kids (mostly local kids) that weren't OAD material and developed them into great 4 years college player. Exactly what Carmody could be.

Well I'm actually satisfied with conference championships and Sweet Sixteens so I guess I'm a bad one to talk to. Would I like to see a national championship? Sure. That is icing on the cake for me though.

That said, I'm very impressed with your high standards................for others...............

I think most folks are saying ND, Michigan, or us.

Why? You will see what I'm talking about when get into your 50's like me. When the "Three Amigos" won those B1G championships back in the 80's I was on cloud nine. Then a few after that. Now I wish for something better.

BBN aka Big Blue Nation aka Kentucky is always looking for new fans

I have high standards too. No more 3 or 4 stars recruited or accepted, only 5 or 6 stars who agree to stay all four years.

Also, we should be on prima time national TV all season, November through April. Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina, etc. should line up for the privilege of playing at Mackey at least 5 to 6 times a year.

Painter sucks. We deserve at least John Wooden resurrected or Bobby Knight-caliber unbeaten coaches in their heydays.

We are losers if we settle for anything less.

DJ Byrd might be my least favorite Boiler of all time. He was a horrible teammate and took way too many terrible shots. He was also on some of Purdue's worst teams. When he graduated, I did a happy dance. Comparing Carmody to Byrd is very concerning to me. I would want him to end up more like Mathias that can drive better. They are completely different players, but I would expect similar impact.

In another one of his videos he drove and finished with his left hand several times. Good leader and efficient scorer. Purdue would be much better signing Carmody than kissing on him. Langford is going to Duke. He narrowed the list to Duke and Louisville so the choice seems fairly obvious.

Maybe we can do some sort of Frankenstein combination of them? I mean Knight is technically alive. We can some how splice their DNA together to create a new human. We will need a woman to carry the spawn and then we will need to wait 21 years at least before they are ready to coach.

We will see. I was in college during the threepeat so I've seen a few myself. I'd love to see a national title but I don't think I will ever define the program by such a benchmark.

Weatherford was a completely different situation to Carmody. From what I can see, Carmody seems to be a Nojel Eastern caliber recruit and Eastern was the highest rated recruit in the 2017 class. Carmody has a long list of offers and is more heavily recruited, from what I can tell, than either Vince Edwards or Carsen Edwards. Even if Purdue were able to sign a 5 star or two every season, getting commitments from quality players like Carmody has to be considered a good thing.
