Darrell Hazell announced captains for 2015 at the kickoff luncheon today.
In the no-surprise category: Robert Kugler (for the second time), Danny Anthrop and Frankie Williams. In the surprise category -- only because Hazell has never had underclassmen as an option since he's been a head coach -- sophomore Ja'Whaun Bentley as the "write-in" vote.
All good choices and a diverse group in terms of their leadership styles. Anthrop is considered a "goofy" guy but one who is business on the field and plays relentlessly. Kugler isn't afraid to hold guys accountable and speak up, while also having more starts than anyone on the roster. Williams is the ultimately chirp guy, but he's also considered one of the team's hardest workers and best players. Bentley followed the leaders as a freshman but emerged in the spring, knowing he had to assume a bigger leadership role and became more vocal.
