Kind of reading between the lines here, but Fleck does not want to interview, Miles is not interested...now Brohm has not even talked to us.
Is it possible that the program is so bad that no big name coach wants to come here? If so,is that fixable? I mean do we need to pay more? Or is it just futile?

I believe our only shot of getting out of this mess is catching lightning in a bottle with a lucky no-name hire. 3-4 decent years makes us more palatable. Right now I'm not sure why anybody would take a risk.

Talk is cheap -- and words alone can't overcome a university administration, and culture, with a reputation for chiseling every dime out of the revenue programs, caring little to nothing about winning championships, and even less about building its future fan base. No better examples are the outrageous seat-license fees in Ross Ade that have left empty the middle sections of the stadium, and the ridiculous prices PU charged for student tickets.

Yep, it's not only possible, it's happening and the problem is compounded because a good young coach isn't going to ruin his career coming to Purdue either. I can't think of any Purdue coach who moved on to a better job or was even mentioned for an open job. They either retire or get fired and end up a position coach somewhere.

Well, at one time, this was a "destination" job. Young could have gone about anywhere when he left, but being Young, he went to Army. Akers' career was over before we hired him. Colletto didn't ruin his career here since he was never HC material in the first place. Same goes for DH1, DH2, and Burtnett. JT could have moved on, before he grew too old.

money Talks and bull**** walks. We will get a great coach.

I hope you're right, but it'll take more than money. DH2 got decent money .. but nothing else from the administration. No good coach will come here unless we convince 'em that from the BOT and Prez, down, the leadership is all in for football, in terms of winning championships. And why would anyone believe that?

You are naive if you believe half the crap that is being written by reporters or the "experts" on this forum.

Sad but true. There's only one guy who's going to be able to save Purdue Athletics:

I don't believe anything I read here. But when most sites are saying Miles is not interested, and Fleck not interviewed...I wonder. Plus, I wonder since 4 years ago we could not find someone either. Every other school with a coaching opening has 'rumors' about big name coaches, except ours!

i thought i read that fleck and brohm were not going to get involved until after conference championship games. so that would explain away the paranoia about them not talking to us

Student tickets should either be free or heavily discounted. You need STUDENTS in the stands. Given the caliber of play the past four years, tickets should be free. I remember the first year I had to pay for them beyond what I was already assessed I think it was '89 and I think the ticket was $48 which was about 2 kegs of beer at the time so it was a major purchase. God I can't believe I paid to see Fred Akers teams, which were horrible but not as bad as DH2 teams.

What is the ridiculous price of student tickets? And how does that compare to places like IU, ui, nw? I was a student not that long ago, but I thought the sports package was a very good deal.

I've always said that football tickets should be free for students though in order to fill the stadium and build future fan base.

The multi-sport package is limited to about 3,000 seats since it includes men's basketball. A couple years back, the student football ticket package worked out to about $16 or 17 per ticket. It was lowered in 2015 or 16 for obvious reasons, but not substantially.

There are schools where student tickets are more expensive, but those are big-time programs where there's huge excess demand, like Michigan and Ohio State. The Student season-ticket football package at Georgia Tech is $49 -- so maybe MB2 gets it?!

Yeah, that's why I asked for pricing of comparable programs. I think $17 seems slightly high, considering that is for games against cincy and Nevada as well. But not ridiculous.

The reason students aren't showing up isn't due to excessively priced tickets.

The boarding pass is $99, gets you into everything except MBB, I believe.

You sound like Morgan Burke.

$17 may not be much to you, and most students can afford $17. Clearly, students pay more at UM and OSU, but then students are not buying the same football-game experience here, at PU, as at UM or OSU. Students are also more careful than you or me about how they choose to spend $17. And when you consider that the PU student-ticket football package of $119 is payable before the season starts, and the students know from past years that decent tickets sell for $5 each prior to games. Then that $119 package starts looking way too expensive to a lot of students.

Okay, so that $99 reflects the price reduction, I mentioned, which was instituted in 2015. Previously, the student football package was $119.

Still, too much when you consider the product. If the goal is revenue maximization, $99 would be okay if we had a decent program. But the goal should be student-attendance maximization, first and revenue, second. In which case, GT's $49 sounds about right.

What the **** are you smoking we were in a battle for butch Jones and then it went with when tenn stepped. We got one of the Fleck type guys. All those guys seem like fool's gold now.

One of my deepest felt opinions is that students should get in free.

However, Even at the cost of $0, we wouldn't have seen a significant increase in student attendance this season. That's how bad the product is.

Not sure how I sound burkian other than my scoffing at you saying the price was "ridiculous", which I think we've cleared up now.

I am told that one of the binders focused on getting rid of the clown that he was interviewing with, and surprisingly he was subsequently passed over for the position.

Then look at what that "LOW BUDGET" CLOWN did to our one and only HOPE of saving Purdue Football:

I think that things at Purdue are very different now than what they were. Not in any order, we have:

1. New AD
2. New University President
3. BOT with newer people on aboard.
4. The GLARING problem with revenue sports (both football and basketball)

I don't think one can say that things are never going to change. The top three items are proof of that. In addition, the biggest hindrance and obstacle for revenue sports is soon to leave campus. Morgan Burke is directly responsible for the condition of the football and WBB teams. Burke leaving Purdue athletics is a major improvement all in itself.

That said, there is a glaring problem with the revenue sports and the Pres/BOT/new AD know that. They all know it and so do we. Now is the time to fix this situation by giving it the PRIORITY it was denied the last 25 years.
