Can Haas play against Michigan?

Wagner has no problems putting the ball on the floor and changing directions. He's maybe a little too fond of the behind the back dribble.

I think Wagner can and will take either Haas or Swanigan off the dribble if given the chance. Where he occasionally gets himself into trouble is that his dribble is too high and guards can swing in from the side and knock it loose if he isn't paying attention to them. But he goes right around most opposing centers that try to play him up tight on the 3 point line. He also gets a little sloppy in his finishing at times making layup attempts harder than they should be.
I stand corrected. And I like your info less than mine! We will have to help him f of wings to stop that stuff but that's not unusual.

My keeps going to that game against OSU where Robbie was on fire in the first half and OSU came roaring back the second while our entire team puckered.
Yeah...and for that game Gene was about 8 feet from me...

Maybe TJ should have asked if Biggie would be able to play today.
Biggie or Haas wasn't going to change Wagner's 6'11" stroke. Had Haas dropped a few early, it certainly wouldn't have hurt. I was glad to see Vince on Wagner more the second half...but you know shooting threes with nobody guarding you and going 7 or 9 or whatever...was impressive. My concerns about their bigs and not guards were warranted. I thought they could shoot and put it on the court, but never imagined them shooting so well. Not sure what Biggie got 18? and Wagner 20+?

I'm thinking other than Walton, Michigan had length at every spot...is that right? Anyway, TWO games in a row where Biggie has not had his best games. Got Vince, Biggie...and Haas--- and gonna play at least two...and I know you are not serious about Haas playing before Biggie, but length...especially if athletic with players that face up seem to give Purdue problems. Hopefully Purdue gets more breathing room if MSU can get the Badgers tomorrow.

Purdue needs Haas and I haven't figured out why his drop step is too much to the baseline instead of the bucket...and why he speeds up so many times with his shot instead of more power and drawing contact?

Haas was not supposed to be benched for that long and Biggie or Vince are better guarding Wagner than Haas. That guy is a European style big tall shooter, we also have a big tall European shooter but cannot play him and Painter still wants to build him into a 5 instead of keeping his mobility on the outside. Everytime Wagner gets the ball on the outside he will shoot because nobody on the outside can guard a 6'11 guy from shooting. It's just not matched up.

I am concerned about Wagner and Wilson taking Haas and Biggie outside and shooting 3s and driving. Gotta pound it inside and make them pay on the other end.
Unfortunately, my concern was validated. Good news is, not a lot of teams have Michigan's skilled bigs.

I could not see much of the first half due to Cable TV.

All I know is that Haas caught fire and we were climbing back and got the lead down to 11. Haas went out and 10 points later, we were down 21 and we never saw Haas again.

Wagner apparently got hot in the 1st half and our centers are criticized for not stopping him and Vince did a good job. I saw Caleb criticized, but without Haas he had to guard the basket. I saw Wagner shoot over Haas one time only. I think Caleb could have stopped Wagner too when paired with Haas. Vince could have slid down to play Irvin or better yet Robinson, who shot 75% from 3.

Caleb got criticized for his D, but IMO he and Haas has been playing a good high low D together. I would have also like to see Vince and Haas playing high low with Caleb taking a big man defender out from the basket. Caleb can hit the outside shot or 3 if collapsed or could be in great position to crash the O boards.

This is why I keep talking about match-ups in the tournaments. For some reason, some of our fans can't seem to grasp this is a significant bearing on your tournament success.

Last year, we knew the press was an issue for us. We were all terrified of being around West Virginia - we avoided them, but got paired up with a lesser-known team that also pressed.

This year, the teams that can match our big men, whether with similar size or more athletic - is our "kryptonite". Maryland didn't necessarily have very skilled big guys, but they had good size and gave our size fits. Michigan has some bad match-ups for us as well. Wisconsin has a very good center, but it's more traditional in style and something we match-up with ok.

Like you said, thankfully there's not a lot of this out there. But when you're in a tournament situation, it only takes 1.

I was thinking that during the game.

Honestly, he might have done a better job on Wagner than any of our bigs.
Haarms and Wagner are the closest matches up so far. Their EU U18 stats show that they have similar skills, both are big, both can drive and both prefer to stay outside. The difference is that Haarms maybe slower than Wagner due to his height but Haarms is a good shot blocker when he's on the outside. I can see him starting our next year's game against Michigan. I just don't like what Painter is doing with Haarms right now trying to turn him into a skilled five. I wish he's just gonna become a stretch five and not lose his perimeter skills. If he likes to shoot 3 balls, let him shoot, that's where his specialty is. Cline's shooting obviously degenerated after Painter started building his defense. He should not give up on that, that's what made Cline a shooter. At the time we help our players overcome their shortcomings, we also need to take care of their best features. Because even the best player with most powerful skill set will still dim if they don't practice their skills. And Haarms is faster than either Biggie or Haas, that's his specialty. I like to see when he's on the outside shooting 3 balls because no one on the outside can stop him.

Again, in the limited tape and seeing him in person...I really don't think Matt is going to play him exclusively inside...I just don't. I think he will give him the green light to take his advantage in any matchup and use it. I know you said he was working him inside in practice, but you may be reading much more into it...again particularly since he is going after legitimate 5's or more inside 4's this year. Haams will not have enough bulk to not get shoved around next year with big 4's or 5's and can't imagine him put down low...unless THAT match-up is a huge advantage to Haams
