Saw where 18' recruit Robby Carmody took in ND game this weekend. Great game vs MSU, 80,000 people screaming, awesome tailgating experience even though ND lost. Carmody said he fell in love with ND, what a surprise. I thought he was solid in our corner. I hope he comes here this week because this is the last week we will have at least 30,000 fans at a game if the weather holds up. Winning at football does help a lot in recruiting a bball player just ask Carmody!!!! DH when you start effecting our bball program too it's time to move on!!

I disagree completely.

As a salesman you direct your pitch in a certain way.

For instance Kentucky uses Midnight Madness, Notre Dame uses football, and a school like Stanford may use academics.

I would imagine that Duke rarely uses football to attract recruits. In OSU's case I would even argue that having a great football program probably hurts their recruiting at times.

When I think of the best basketball programs, currently, I think of Kentucky, Kansas, and Duke. They all became elite programs without having amazing football teams.

Having the ability to lure a recruit in using multiple methods is nice but I think giving them the right pitch is much more important.

Purdue should focus on the ability to play immediately, academics, facilities **kinda, post player touches, and things of the sorts.

30K? more like 25K. Hopefully they keep Robby as far from Ross Ade as possible.

I

I don't think you would find Tom Izzo, Jim Bielem or Cuanzo Martin complain about a great football team hurting recruiting. What 18 year old young man wants to go to a school that when you go on a recruiting trip has a lackluster student section at about 1/2 capacity, and a stadium filled at about 60%. Something has to be said about the atmosphere at a MSU, Michigan or OSU for a fall evening football game where 90,000 people are cheering and supporting there team and school.

In reagards to Kentucky Kansas and Duke, first those are the bluebloods of college basketball. Second of all Kentucky and Duke aren't cellar dwellers anymore in there respective conferences, with Duke having a couple good runs lately.

Painter needs any advantage he can get, when recruits come to Ross Ade on a fall ball visit it would be a lot more impressive in fronton 65,000 then 30,000 and a crazy student section sticking around till the end instead of leaving at halftime. That is what MP does not want to see and neither do his basketball recruits

Agree. The atmosphere at our football games certainly doesn't put our best foot forward in recruiting other sports. Might as well take them to the volleyball game instead. At least that is a reflection of how are fans are capable of supporting a team when given a reason. Hell, I thought we even had some good showings for football until this year. Thought the fan support for the VT game last season was strong given the past few years. Felt like the stadium was 80% or more that day. I think the fans have actually been great for Hazell given what he's given us but a recruit isn't going to understand that. All they are going to see is a half full stadium as a reflection of our support.

If our recruiting coordinator sets up a recruit to watch a Purdue football game, he should be fired. Right now, it's a toxic atmosphere.

Yes they are blue bloods and as I was saying you should play to your strengths. Our strength is not football and we should not be inviting recruits to football games. Those blue bloods became blue bloods without great football programs and so it shows you that it isn't necessary. I never said it hurt. But in OSU's case many players will not want to go to a school where the basketball team is second fiddle.
