Second baseman Ashlynn Campbell was selected Big Ten Freshman of the Week by the conference office following a pair of wins at Marshall (10-3) and vs. Radford (9-4).

Campbell is the program's first Freshman of the Week honoree since 2018 (last: pitcher Sydney Bates).

Over the weekend, Campbell led the league's newcomers with a .412 batting average, two runs on seven hits and five RBI while also going a perfect two-for-two on stolen bases. Meanwhile, she produced a .474 on-base % and a .412 slugging %.

Campbell recorded a weekend's best .326 batting average at Marshall (3/3) to close the tournament, posting one run, two hits and an RBI over her four at-bats. Meanwhile, the Boilermaker recorded a career-high seven putouts vs. Butler in the 10-inning showdown (3/2).

In total, the Wetumpka, Alabama, native posted three multi-hit games during her five starts at the Thundering Herd Invitational. Campbell struck out just once in 17 at-bats.

The softball squad will be back in action on Friday at the FGCU Spring Break Classic. Over the three-day tournament, the Boilermakers will take on Pittsburgh and #12 Florida State twice and Western Michigan once.

This is positive news for the softball program for sure. I think they had a pretty poor season last year, right? Which led to a coaching change. Saw several early season results come across my Twitter feed for Purdue sports so it looks like 2024 is off to a good start for the team
