caleb told to return to purdue

I very well could be 100% wrong on this, and I hope he comes back, but just because he's being "told" to come back doesn't seem to be something that necessarily would automatically mean he'll return.

He seems to be in the interest of developing his game to play the 4 (the only real shot he has at making it to the NBA -- he's simply too undersized and unathletic to play the 5).

I wonder if he thinks that playing professionally now, in any capacity (Europe or D-League), would be better for his development at the 4 position than going back to a college system.

Just food for thought!

He has no business going pro at this time but maybe he is set on it? I really think it would be in his best interest to come back next season.

I think back to the case of Desean Thomas from o$u. Left after junior year and hasn't sniffed a minute in the NBA what more dominate of a player when he left college then Swanni was as a freshman. If Swanni was an athletic freak or even 50% better of an athlete than he is, I would say he is gone. But his lack of NBA athleticism MUST be made up for by skill. Right now that skill is not up to that level.

Maybe CS hates college......hates going to classes...the whole experience....just does not interest him and he is looking for anyway to get some money to play the only thing that does hold his interest...I would love for him to come back ....But if he wants to ride some pine....Or play in some crap division in Europe

Agreed. The dilemma is: is staying at Purdue his best bet for developing skills as a 4 man, or is the D league/Europe, where you don't have to go to school, and can work on your game all day...

I actually think that he might have a better chance of playing the 5 than the 4 in the NBA. Biggie hasn't shown the same skill level yet, but Jared Sullinger has similar measurables and has had success this season as a 5 in Brad Stevens' small ball line-up. Swanigan's vertical isn't great, but it isn't too far off the NBA average for centers (who have the lowest average verticals of any position), as is the case with his 8'11" standing reach where his massive wingspan makes up for his lack of height. He plays with a great base and uses his strength well, which will help him defensively at the 5 more than any other position. NBA fours will be harder for him to guard, in my opinion, than NBA fives.

I do agree that he needs a lot of work. I would like to see him continue to lower his body fat percentage to below 10%. His outside game needs to get much better, but his post game does as well. Going against Isaac Haas every day is a great opportunity. He needs to be able to post up and defend size and strength. Going against Vince Edwards is also a great opportunity to work on defending a highly skilled perimeter player in space.

I see great potential in Biggie, but I don't think he is quite ready yet to make the leap to the NBA.

I told my kids to do a lot of things when they were young and all knowing. Sometimes they did as advised. Sometimes they only listened to themselves. I hope Biggie comes back for one more but I fear he has convinced himself that he knows more than the NBA advisers.

And will he be a "team" player if he does come back? Time will tell.

I'm starting to wonder this myself. If he does return I hope he doesn't consider the whole season an NBA audition.
IMO, the whole season IS an NBA audition. If CS and maybe TW understand that and that NBA teams are looking for improvements within the team concept, both of the players could improve their draft standing. At the same time, IU and PU would both be helped. It will be interesting what CS and TW decide. I think that CS stays and TW leaves for the draft.

Who's TW? And who cares?

He's a shining star for the Loosiers. Jimmy has to come over here to have a rational discussion about BB because it doesn't exist at the Stye. As for the second part of your question, nobody over here really cares who he is either.

Coming into college, he was hyped as a possible one and done. Last year he had the same mindset as he would this year, I don't think anything would dramatically change.

He's a confident player - we saw that at times that was frustrating (i.e. BTT Champ Game). We saw it sometimes in games where it was a great thing.

The better he gets, the less frustrating it will become. He will have a lot more attention from defenders next year as they won't be double/triple teaming Hammons. So it will be a new challenge for him and he's got to find the best ways to play like that.

I think people are really over-reading everything right now.

Keep in mind, when he's saying all of that stuff - he's trying to sell himself as a player an NBA team can pick.

This was ALL said prior to him receiving an ounce of feedback from a NBA. If the feedback is don't do NBDL and go back to college - I think he'd do that. He wanted to hear a team say they'd want him - but if they did, they wouldn't tell him go back to college, they'd say oh yeah go to the d-league and work your way.

It is a mistake for both to leave...although I think CS improves physically and mentally and not sure TW ever gets the mental part...

I don't think he's interested in being a Boiler or making the team better. He's not coming back and as far as I'm concerned that leaves room for someone who's buying in to the program.

Now I remember why I put you on ignore.

I'll go ahead and bite since I've got a little free time. The Biggie saga has been all about the NBA and "Rosey's" dream. I appreciate his contribution last season but his focus is not making Purdue better. Your turn.
