would you recommend buying tickets now on stubhub, or wait and buy from scalpers right before the game?
if you think IU beats Maryland, then get them on stubhub now. If you don’t, wait.would you recommend buying tickets now on stubhub, or wait and buy from scalpers right before the game?
I think schools use secondary markets now. Purdue has the same thing sometimes- blocks of 15-20 tickets that a regular fan wouldn't have. If you look at the end zone seats for that Iu game that's what it looks like is happening. It just depends how much the school is willing to lower the price over time as the date nearsI have always thought Stubhub was fishy with the bucket game tickets at Bloomington. Sure seems like there are far fewer seats than you expect and the pricing seems to standardized. I don't know what is up but wonder if IU buys a lot of tickets back to keep the pricing reasonable and re-sells at higher price. For example, the cheapest 200 +/- seats on Stubhub are all the same price all in sections 14 and 15 between rows 66 and 73. Then the same for the next pricing level. They probably make quite a bit of money on this game from loyal Purdue and Indiana fans who will always go. Last year Purdue had $10 tickets in a flash sale and other promotions and nearly sold it out. Purdue is more interested in putting fans in the seats than maximizing the margins on their tickets.
We go every time they play there over the past 15 years or so and almost everytime buy our tickets the day of the game. One year we didn't get tickets when IU was playing for a bowl before they changed the game to thanksgiving weekend and another year a Purdue fan gave me a stack of tickets for free. I think it has gotten a lot easier to find tickets on the street since they moved the weekend to Thanksgiving. I suspect we will do the same this year unless IU runs a promotion for cheaper tickets or I am able to nab some tickets off Stubhub before IU!

Purdue, like many schools and sports organizations, use the secondary markets as a way to sell discounted tickets without lowering their official price. Purdue does a good job with that in my opinion. It seems Indiana does not. It can also work in reverse where the school can take advantage of market demand if tickets are highly sought after. In that case they can sell tickets above original list price.

I much prefer Purdue's approach over IU's.
IU has been locked in at $70 for all tickets until the past few days.
Purdue advertises tickets (for what I'll call 'non-prime' games) starting at $15 (these are usually youth tickets, with general admission around $30).
That gives people the opportunity to pick and choose which games they go to, budget for it, make their purchase EARLY, and anticipate the game.
I would expect the "IU approach" would be much better suited for a program with much higher ticket demand, looking to unload some sections close to game day.
But, that IU Athletic Department has been an absolute MESS for quite some time.
I doubt they will unload sections close to game day. They would rather have empty seats than lower prices. At least that is th way it has been in the 15 years I have gone to this game. This year the tix are even more expensive probably because of the Boiler hype.
they already have.
Rows of tickets, $32 in the south end zone.
IU can do whatever they want, but the reality of it is if they lose to Maryland this weekend, the bottom is going to drop out of that market. Current IU ticket holders will be unloading those bad boys at whatever they can get for them.I doubt they will unload sections close to game day. They would rather have empty seats than lower prices. If you believe that, then by all means wait until game day and you can get those dudes for next to nothing on the street.slight edit.

I’m not sure myself, as Maryland might be a bigger disaster than IU right now. And of course I want IU to do well enough for Tommy High School to keep his gig...
Based on Penn State game (lack of) crowd, there should be about 90% of the seats left. I have often bought tickets on Craigslist or Ebay for away games. I would guess you can get them for $10.00 on game day from scalpers, regardless if they win or not this weekend. Basketball has started now and no one at IU will give a sh&%. If ND football is on at the same time, I would bet on $5.00 tickets. Good Luck.
Hard to believe, this will be my 38th bucket game. Occasionally I'll buy from scalpers for my group. Even when both teams were poor, I don't think I've ever seen them them that low.
Right now I'm inclined to hold out and see what ticket movement looks like over the next week or so. Since I'm taking so many people I'd prefer to not buy a stack from scalpers.
If IU finds a way to win a game and is playing for bowl eligibility, all bets are off. It could boost attendance and keep ticket prices from falling farther.
IU Record home/away by conference since 2008: *Does not include bowl games*Even if IU beats Maryland (50/50 at best) the fanbase is already checked out... they have literally lost every big game the last 7 years at home (0-11) and the Iowa homecoming blowout loss marked the end of the season for the already small, beat up fanbase.

Interesting. What this tells me is that IU doesn't really have much of a home field advantage. I know, that's pretty obvious, particularly to Purdue fans. What's also interesting is that there probability of winning significantly drops when playing a ranked team. I believe Purdue would get ranked if they win against Minn. But if they lose next week to Wisc, they would most likely lose that ranking. As if they need any extra incentive to beat Wisc; but it might help them going to IU. They also would be 8 and 4, with an IU win, with a better/bigger bowl invitation. Boy, now I'm getting really greedy.IU Record home/away by conference since 2008: *Does not include bowl games*
