Would really like to land this one. It would make this a solid class with grabbing a player of need and landing a top 50 talent at sg. Brown would also be nice because we don't have a sg on the roster that isn't mainly a shooter.

He's an elite slasher with a high level of athleticism. Also heard he's a rock solid defender. Sign me up!

Did anyone hear a rumor about why Brown decided against Purdue after the visit? I don't think this is a negative or positive in any way. He might not have gotten along with the guys on the team, or he might not have seen a position for himself. Maybe he has a different attitude/perspective on some important things about the way you play the game. Who knows? I would just like some perspective on the decision. Did our guys like him? Was the decline mutual?

I doubt Gelon scares off a top 50 recruit. Gelon is a niche recruit like Zeilsoft
Regardless, without Gelon you have another 4star SG committed and have Robert Johnson, Zeisloft, and Taylor. A lot of competition there, I would be surprised if he picks IU, but it is recruiting so anything can happen.

Who is Taylor? Also Zeisloft is a senior. IU runs a 3 guard offense...indications are Blackmon is gone if he gets a 1st round grade and same for Williams. If that is the case IU will have:
Newkirk( transfer from Pitt)
jones freshman
r. Johnson jr
Gelon who is probably the 12/13th guy in roster.
brown will start for IU next year if he signs...

If things fall the way you think they might, and I happen to agree with you, IU sruggle next year. 2016 recruits are crucial for IU. It wil be a water shed year. WIth graduations and defections to the pros of key players, IU will depend on their 2016 freshmen almost exclusively. Crean can't wait for the bumper 2017 class, where many talented players will become eligible.

Yes and no...frontcourt of Bryant/Davis Guards Rj, Cujo, Newkirk, Hartman. Plus OG and Morgan as depth...how they finish in 16 will be important. If Blackmon returns they should be really solid. Also I don't think we get Brown anyway...Miami bound.

If your thinking/hoping is accurate, then you are probably solid, but thin. I was thinking JBJ and Bryant leave with the 2015 players. In that case you will be paper thin. It is a double edged sword - if Bryant is really good, 2015 will be a great year for IU, but then he's a 1&done. That's good for this year, but bad for 2016. IU will still have some good players left, but I would not label them as equivilent to those leaving. RJ and Cujo are not the same as Yogi and JBJ IMHO.

Whoever you bring in as 2016 freshmen will see the court - a lot! They will be the nucleus for the next good run by IU. I guess that is the essence of my thinkinig, that 2016 is a critical recruiting year for IU. Just as I think 2017 will be critical for Purdue.

Just saw the story confirming it's Miami.

"Shooting guard Bruce Brown, ranked No. 30 in the ESPN 100, announced his commitment to the Miami Hurricanes on ESPN's Recruiting Nation on Wednesday morning.

Scout's take: Bruce Brown to Miami (FL)[/paste:font]
Bruce Brown was a major pickup for Miami (FL) on what could be a big final day of the signing period for Jim Larranaga and the Hurricanes.

Brown chose Miami over the
Indiana Hoosiers after having previously considered Xavier, Purdue and UMass from a long list of scholarship offers.

The Hoosiers had been the perceived favorite throughout the summer and most of the fall, but Brown said Miami had always been at the forefront of his mind.

"They were always in it more than people realized," Brown said. "They were just under the radar."

The Hurricanes offered a scholarship to Brown dating to February of his sophomore season, when former assistant and current Bowling Green coach Michael Huger saw him during a midseason event in his first year at Vermont Academy.
