Yeah. Doesnt really make sense.Very late in the game to find a Major D1 starting job considering if he still is the #2 QB he is a play from being the starter!
Unfortunately we now have absolutely no depth at the position. I see Browne, a transfer from TCU, a transfer from James Madison, and a RS Freshman from my neck of the woods in Lockport, IL. Only ever heard of Browne.Looks like Browne is all of a sudden #2? He kind of reminds me of Allen only with good speed (not saying Allen is necessarily slow)
I can see where the transfer portal is going to continue to make it difficult to build depth at the QB position. Every #2 QB in the country will look for a place where he can start.Unfortunately we now have absolutely no depth at the position. I see Browne, a transfer from TCU, a transfer from James Madison, and a RS Freshman from my neck of the woods in Lockport, IL. Only ever heard of Browne.
If you don’t hurt some feelings to get the best roster you can, you’ll get run over by teams who doNothing surprises me anymore with the way the portal is set up. Sucks seeing Indiana guys like Brady enter the portal but Coach Walters is here to win games and add depth to the team. He has already shown the portal works both ways so I believe it will benefit Purdue in the future more than it will hurt them.
It’s sad the portal has turned into that but you are absolutely right! If you don’t hurt some feelings to get the best roster you can, you’ll get run over by teams who do
Exactly. Nice hard working kid. If he wants to play might need to drop down a level. Didn't hear anything positive about him the last two years in terms of competing for pt.He wasn't our #2 QB after spring practices.
I think that a lot of posters saw that Rivals gave Alaimo a 4 star rating and thought OMG. Unfortunately, he was only a 4 star with a rating of 90 per the 247 composite, with 247 only giving him an 86. After I watched his HS tape, I was confused as to why Brohm had even offered him, let alone why anybody had dubbed him the QB of the future. He had a weak arm, underthrew his targets too often, and couldn't even throw a decent spiral, plus he played in a Wing-T, 80/20 type of offense in which he barely even passed. I'm far from a QB coach, but he never, ever impressed me.After hearing about their commitments, I was so excited to see Alaimo and then Allen take the field for Purdue. They were both such highly touted recruits. I guess the recruiting rankings don't mean all that much for QBs.
Not sure about the weak arm part. Brohm had said Alaimo had the strongest arm on the team.I think that a lot of posters saw that Rivals gave Alaimo a 4 star rating and thought OMG. I hadn't heard that. Is that actually the case, or are you speculating? He wasn't our #2 QB after spring practices.
I thought I saw he entered the portal as well? Hope not. he's the chip on he shoulder kinda guy I love and seems to excel at Purdue no matter what the system.Looks like Browne is all of a sudden #2?

Couldn’t have said it better myself. A guy can show up to the tourney and make 800k in a day.And this is what players wanted. They wanted to get paid like pros - this is what happens to pros.

At Purdue, that means there's a 95% likelihood you'll be thrown into the fray during the season.Seems like #2 on the depth chart at a P5 school which is going to throw a lot would be a pretty good position to be in especially as a redshirt frosh.
BTW, has the transfer portal completely demolished the NCAA's requirement for student athlete graduation rates? I don't hear it mentioned much anymore. The word “commitment“ doesn’t mean much anymore in today’s world.
Very trueAnd this is what players wanted. They wanted to get paid like pros - this is what happens to pros.

I'm sure most of them will happily take the money or the flexibility to go where they can get paid. And this is what players wanted. They wanted to get paid like pros - this is what happens to pros.
I’d like to be more of a fan of the the players continuing in the program, than just a fan of the uniform. Total agreement of your post.I'm sure most of them will happily take the money or the flexibility to go where they can get paid.
Sometimes 4-star recruits don't work out. I'd like a little more roster stability because it's more fun to watch players develop over 4-5 years.
I’ve seen some comments on how the portal is ruining the NCAA. I couldn’t agree more! Look at what happened a year or two ago when USC hired the head coach from Oklahoma. Then, what seems like half of Oklahoma’s starting offense hits the portal and winds up at USC. It’s getting ridiculous!![]()

Agreed. He doesn’t fit harrells system. If it was just about leaving he would have left in the beginningI respect that he came back to battle it out, lost his #2 spot and doesn’t want to sit. I don’t think he’s quitting at this point…just looking for a better fit. Good luck to him.
