Brady Allen Hits the Portal Again

Very late in the game to find a Major D1 starting job considering if he still is the #2 QB he is a play from being the starter!
Yeah. Doesnt really make sense.

That being said,, I heard wind of this about 2 months ago. I didn't believe it as he had returned from the portal earlier. If the rumor is true, he ends up at Louisville.

Looks like Browne is all of a sudden #2? He kind of reminds me of Allen only with good speed (not saying Allen is necessarily slow)

Unfortunately we now have absolutely no depth at the position. I see Browne, a transfer from TCU, a transfer from James Madison, and a RS Freshman from my neck of the woods in Lockport, IL. Only ever heard of Browne.

I can see where the transfer portal is going to continue to make it difficult to build depth at the QB position. Every #2 QB in the country will look for a place where he can start.

I really think Browne was vastly under-rated, although I am not sure why. He was Florida’s 8A Player of the Year and Mr. Football runner up after leading Venice to a 14-1 record and a state title. Brady Allen won the 3A title in Indiana, Browne the 8A title in FLORIDA. I think Browne just beat out Allen and he saw the hand-writing on the wall. Allen stuck around and competed, but we got a steal with Browne.....(and I think a better QB than Allen). Just my opinion, and we shall see in the future.

I find it kind of disturbing that we wait for a highly hyped recruit to finally deliver, and we basically never hear of them again. It would be nice to see them fail on the field during a game, instead of basically never seeing them play a down. It's too bad there weren't blow out games so that fans can evaluate the players for themselves when they get a chance to play. Now, the portal makes this even worse. I like a player being a Purdue player and devoting time and effort to their development to do so. Now, just bring in another player from elsewhere which I don't believe best serves college sports, although it may give you a winning team.

Nothing surprises me anymore with the way the portal is set up. Sucks seeing Indiana guys like Brady enter the portal but Coach Walters is here to win games and add depth to the team. He has already shown the portal works both ways so I believe it will benefit Purdue in the future more than it will hurt them.

If you don’t hurt some feelings to get the best roster you can, you’ll get run over by teams who do

It would have been nice to see Allen play in that bowl game, instead of using Burton. I think the Brohms' were hoping they could get him to go to Louisville, so I wouldn't be shocked to see him go there.

After hearing about their commitments, I was so excited to see Alaimo and then Allen take the field for Purdue. They were both such highly touted recruits. I guess the recruiting rankings don't mean all that much for QBs.

I think that a lot of posters saw that Rivals gave Alaimo a 4 star rating and thought OMG. Unfortunately, he was only a 4 star with a rating of 90 per the 247 composite, with 247 only giving him an 86. After I watched his HS tape, I was confused as to why Brohm had even offered him, let alone why anybody had dubbed him the QB of the future. He had a weak arm, underthrew his targets too often, and couldn't even throw a decent spiral, plus he played in a Wing-T, 80/20 type of offense in which he barely even passed. I'm far from a QB coach, but he never, ever impressed me.

Not sure about the weak arm part. Brohm had said Alaimo had the strongest arm on the team.

That being said, the fact he's still in the portal is rather telling.

I hadn't heard that. Is that actually the case, or are you speculating?

Speculation, but he wasnt accurate I do know. If he was #2 I don't think he transfers.

Not a huge surprise, Jeff Brohm had a protypical QB that never once worked out at the P5 level. Maybe it works in the crappy ACC.

I thought I saw he entered the portal as well? Hope not. he's the chip on he shoulder kinda guy I love and seems to excel at Purdue no matter what the system.
Hope not as well. I hadn't heard that.

I really don't know what goes through kids' minds. I get everyone wants to be #1. But very few guys are recruited and start as #1 on the depth chart right away, especially at QB.

Seems like #2 on the depth chart at a P5 school which is going to throw a lot would be a pretty good position to be in especially as a redshirt frosh.

And this is what players wanted. They wanted to get paid like pros - this is what happens to pros.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. A guy can show up to the tourney and make 800k in a day.

And yet some of these guys will have their neighbors dad on here telling people they are being meanies to college kids

At Purdue, that means there's a 95% likelihood you'll be thrown into the fray during the season. :p

The word “commitment“ doesn’t mean much anymore in today’s world.
BTW, has the transfer portal completely demolished the NCAA's requirement for student athlete graduation rates? I don't hear it mentioned much anymore.

I'm sure most of them will happily take the money or the flexibility to go where they can get paid.

Sometimes 4-star recruits don't work out. I'd like a little more roster stability because it's more fun to watch players develop over 4-5 years.

I’d like to be more of a fan of the the players continuing in the program, than just a fan of the uniform. Total agreement of your post.

I’ve seen some comments on how the portal is ruining the NCAA. I couldn’t agree more! Look at what happened a year or two ago when USC hired the head coach from Oklahoma. Then, what seems like half of Oklahoma’s starting offense hits the portal and winds up at USC. It’s getting ridiculous!

The guys getting cut can’t play.

Would you rather Kory Taylor appear on one kickoff in 4-5 years or get cut? When Kelly butler left, imagine if joe tiller could have gone out and gotten someone better than David Owen.

I respect that he came back to battle it out, lost his #2 spot and doesn’t want to sit. I don’t think he’s quitting at this point…just looking for a better fit. Good luck to him.
Agreed. He doesn’t fit harrells system. If it was just about leaving he would have left in the beginning
