I said before the game that we had to stop the 3 and Iowa State could be beat. Well, . . that is EXACTLY what we did, and . . . we were kicking their a$$, when Matt tried to get too cute ! ! !

I thought he was just giving Biggie a 1-2 minute blow, but Noooooooooo ! Had to wait until the 19 pt lead was 7, Iowa State had a full head of steam, and the ISU fans were back into the game.

I can't tell you how STUPID, repeat . . STUPID that was ! ! He KNEW this team tightened up for 2 straight years and yet he put them RIGHT BACK IN THE SAME BOAT AGAIN ! ! and, . . like we've seen before (like the btt tourney) we started tightening up again and lost the lead.

LUCKILY, . . like with Penn State, we were dealing with a dumb team and they took some bad jumpshots, just like Penn State did, which allowed us to crawl back in front with a shot from PJ that I swear went around the rim 3 times (or it seemed to) Geez ! ! WHY ????? did we have to do that? It wasn't the 1st game of a 2 game week-end? Dumb . . just really really REALLY dumb ! !

I was upset at the time, too. But, those extra 2-3 minutes after the under-12 timeout might have been the difference between Biggie running out of gas, and having enough in the tank to get that loose ball steal and to come up with the biggest offensive rebound in Purdue history, so I'm going to let that all slide.

I'll point out a similarity from last years collapse to this game:

Painter, in the midst of a run by the other team and Purdue struggling, went to a lineup that had no business being on the floor.

Against LR, it was not having a single pg on the floor against the press and tonight it was the lineup of PJT, Carsen, Spike, Dakota, and Vince. It seemed as if Painter was trying to match the small lineup (as he mistakenly did against LR) instead of playing to their strengths.

Good win by the program as a whole and credit to CMP for the great calls coming out of the locker room for the half. Those two great sets out of the normal motion set were great. I think playing ISU is a great warmup for Kansas and we obviously have a good idea of what MSU will do.

Yeah, I'm just about to the point of thinking it was MP's best move of the season to sit Biggie when he did. And I am certainly no CMP-can-do-no-wrong type. Most teams that aren't completely physically overmatched will make a run in the NCAA tourney. I think MP saw that it was already happening, and took it as his chance to buy some crucial minutes for Swanigan and VE. Their shots were starting to fall, and they were beginning to figure out that our guys couldn't stay in front of them on defense. Biggie staying in wasn't going to change that aspect of the game.

I did not like that Painter waited so long to release Haas in the second half when it was working really well with him and Biggie together. Then he sat Biggie for too long. It was obvious to everybody including Biggie who was clearly frustrated. It didn't cost us the game, but those were my two biggest complaints about Painter that game. Other than that it was a fantastic game plan and a huge win.

Biggie was frustrated and when he came in he tried to single handedly push the lead back out and it didn't work. Biggie was taken out of his rhythm. ISU deserved credit because they knocked down some tough shots, but even the announcers were openly questioning why Biggie was sitting and why it took so long to get Haas back out in the second half. All in all, we won. We are in the sweet 16 and that is all that matters. We overcame adversity and a huge push with ISU giving everything they had. Purdue better be ready for Kansas MSU. With how we handled ISU I am not as intimidated by Kansas, but Purdue is a matchup nightmare for MSU. Ward isn't a great shooter and is primed to foul trouble. They would need to play a heck of a game with Purdue having an off night to win. It sure would be nice to see them in the final four in my lifetime and we got a dang good chance. With some of the top teams going down, if there ever was a year, this is it!
