"People in the sport and the industry recognize how hard it is to win regular season championships," Bobinski said. "Tournament championships are great and maybe to some even more (important) because of college basketball nowadays and there being so much emphasis on postseason play.

"But winning it over 18 games when all 14 teams are trying to do the same thing, and you've now risen to the top of that heap, it's a heck of an accomplishment and one we should celebrate, appropriately so, and take pride doing it."

Hate the unbalanced schedule, but no hand picking opponents here a week or so in advance. It is for all to see well in advance

Oh no.

He sounds like Gene Keady in those statements. "Conference titles are more meaningful than making it to a Final Four." Let most college basketball fans tell you, "No, they're not."

A team doing its best in the NCAA Tournament is what people remember most about them when it's all said and done.

Conference titles are nice, conference tournament titles are nice, but Final Four, National Title Game appearances and National Title Game Champions are the stuff for which teams are most remembered.

He wasn't talking about fans. He said,
"People in the sport and the industry recognize how hard it is to win regular season championships,"
I agree with you that "fans" like the hype..."those in the business" obviously see it a little different in that the season carries a higher weighting than what may be given by a fan. That doesn't mean it isn't a big deal...the tourney. It just means those in the arena know how difficult a season is. Bobinski wants to win as many as he can, but his quote was his comments on those people in the sport and industry and not the fan.

There is a difference and that isn't to say that he is immune to the significance of tourney success...he knows it is important, very important. What he never said is why it was so important. BTW, Gene was never A.D.

I don't think he was alluding to that. He just wants to emphasize that a regular season title is worthy of a lot of merit and praise.

I agree that FFs and NT game appearances are what people remember most.

fair enough

Reading it just gave me flashbacks to Keady always emphasizing the importance of winning Big Ten titles but rarely (if ever) publicly emphasizing the importance of winning games in the NCAA Tournament on a consistent basis and reaching those goals.

A nice audio from Matt on the team

As if the two are mutually exclusive.
He is asked in the audio if you could pick BTT or season...which would be most important...and this person in the arena (Matt) said "season" as it is much more important than 3 games or so..no hesitation at all. Now, no question he would take a NT over the Big season...but playing strong for a duration and not just a hot streak is appreciated...

Jesus, he's saying something nice about what the team has accomplished. Please find something else to bitch about.
