Blough sets new Purdue record

Does this mean more of this is to come or was it a result of playing against a bad defense?

let's hope there is more to come. Losing three games by 8 points is tough pill to swallow. Defense needs to improve or we have no chance to win any games

Purdue will win some games.Lets remember that Lock is expected to be a first round pick.I doubt if we face another passer that good all year.Lets not get too down in the dumps, since there are nine more games to play.

I thought our defense showed some heart and potential at times. Unfortunately they could not stop the field goal drive. If only we could have completed the sack on Lock. Blough played great. Most likely his best game as a Boilermaker. He played at a level I did not know he was capable of. I would make him the full time starter and see how he does. I would ditch the rotation. If Blough doesn't perform, I would wait until the following game to make a switch. Previously it seemed like Blough was playing to not make a mistake. Tonight he was playing to win.

When Purdue failed to complete that sack on Lock,it looked like the defense just stopped for two seconds, then he completed that twenty yarder.Strange.

Yeah, it was strange and awful. I think the rest of the guys thought he had him and let up a little. Besides the call reversal, I thought that play was a back breaker. After they got closer to the end zone we should have just let them score so at least we would have had a chance to tie it with some time left on the clock.

most passing yards in a single game , 572

damn shame it didn't come with a win

And we hardly run the ball, which we had a banner day doing the week before.

If you can't stop an offense, keep them off the field. Running the ball does that. We didn't even try.

Also, if we are going to run so little, just keep DJ out there. No need to platoon rbs when he is clearly Superior to Jones - Who's is just too damn slow

I thoght the same thing, especially given how well DJ runs in the open field.

But, in defense of the playcalling I'll add that huge chunks of yards were available through the air.

Lock looked so good, because we put no pressure on him. We made Eastern Michigan's QB look good due to having time to throw. We made NW's QB look good due to the same thing as well.

Due to lack of NFL QB's, Lock may be one of the top 3 QBs picked. I was more impressed by their WRs than Lock, but it is probably the same thing that our secondary (Blackmon in particular) might have made them look better.

Lets be honest. The only way we will win games this year is to put up about 45 to 50 pts in a game. We are going to have to outscore our opponents. We are not going to pressure the QB until we have pass rushers, which won't happen until Karlaftis steps on campus. With our lack of pass rushers, we have to stop going with a 3 man line on 3rd and long. They made it almost every time due to no pressure.

We need to solve these problems and get ready for Boston College, which will present another challenge for our defense.

We have some amazing D-line recruits coming in next year that will begin to fix things going forward and I hope we add Isaiah Gibson, Cameron Williams, & JJ Weaver to the next class. It may take a couple seasons, but based on next years recruiting class we are heading in the right direction. We will get there.

Good article on Blough. Great game for this young man.

"Only player in Big Ten history, Illinois’ Dave Wilson in 1980, has thrown for more yards in a game than Blough did Saturday night, when he totaled 572, 49 fewer than Wilson’s league-record total and exactly 50 more than Drew Brees ever managed in a Boilermaker uniform."

I'm sure it is tough knowing if you make a mistake you might be replaced? This might make some people tense and not play to their full potential? Maybe blough relaxed more Saturday and got in his grove?

Brohm said that Blough might have suffered a slight injury lat night. I hope it was slight. We are going to need him Saturday, especially if Sindelar would not be available. I don't think with our OL that playing Plummer would be a good idea right now.
