BigTen Conference Weak?

I think one thing that this weeks BigTen football games proved is that the conference is weak from top-to-bottom. When the supposed #1 team in the country can't hardly beat Indiana and the #2 team in the country can beat Purdue, that speaks for itself... The only team that seems to be getting better each week is Michigan. Ohio State better be worried, because Michigan just may get them this year. I am just not impressed with BigTen football this year. Sad when you think OSU won the national title last year. I would have thought that would have elevated the conference. But, obviously it comes down to coaching. One reason why Michigan is making strides.

I was surprised that Tressel only played Jones on Saturday. If the IU game was the only example, it'd be one thing given that it was at IU and everyone gives Ohio State their best game. But the last few weeks, Ohio State's looked pretty flat. They certainly have playmakers and a very solid roster. Sometimes teams like this can get a little full of themselves. Ohio State's state schedule has been pretty vanilla since their opener and they play Maryland next before playing Penn State. They play their 2 toughest games of the season, Michigan State and @ Michigan, the last 2 weekends of the season. If Ohio State loses before then, they have a good shot at ending the season with 2 losses and maybe out of the playoff picture (depending if they get to the Big Ten Championship game).

As I mentioned with MSU before we played them, they haven't really looked dominant on either side of the ball. MSU's usual defense isn't quite there (at least yet), as they haven't held one opponent under 10 points and only 1 opponent has been held under 20.

I haven't seen Wisconsin play this year. They certainly don't seem as good as they usually are, but I also wouldn't overlook Iowa too much. Iowa is one of those teams that is not flashy at all, so they often are overlooked. Would I rank Iowa in the top 20? I don't know about that. But I certainly would not dismiss them.

Penn State is definitely not impressive. If Hackenberg is considered a top 5 pick in the NFL draft, apparently I'd be a crappy NFL scout.

when the conference season was ready to start i thought the only games the mighty boilers didn't have much of a chance against was msu and wiscy
after this weekend i feel they will be competitive in and could win all of the games remaining. i'm sure they won't but will be surprised if they get embarassed (except the annual steamrolling by wiscy, which should not surprise)

yes the B1G is weak

It's going to make you sad. But IU is a good team.

"Others receiving votes: Oregon 64, Duke 59, West Virginia 31, Toledo 24, Kansas State 17, Temple 16, Arizona State 16, Mississippi State 14, Navy 12, Houston 11, Kentucky 6, Arizona 5, Missouri 4, Wisconsin 4, North Carolina 4, Indiana 2, Illinois 2"

Honestly see an 8 win season for them.

Yes,IU might win eight, but I doubt if they beat Michigan or Michigan State.Iowa is probably a toss up,and the key for the Hoosiers is winning a conference road game, something they haven't done yet with Kevin Wilson as coach.Their game at Happy Valley this week is big.If they don't beat Rutgers at Bloomington, something is wrong, and IU closes out the year at Maryland and Purdue.Right now,I think they might take those last two,but when did they last win back to back conference road games? My guess would be the Mallory era.

They are going to have a good season in terms of W/L, but I don't think they are a good team. They played an overrated OSU team close in the biggest game in Bloomington in who knows how long. The same team was lucky to have Southern Illinois drop a 2-pt conversion try. We came within 3 of MSU. Are we a good team?

I don't see ANY dominant conference. Gotta remember, whoever is the top 4 or 5 teams in the country usually will have 3 or 4 close calls in a season. That said, the PAC 10 and SEC do appear to be a smidgeon better top to bottom.

It's still early. IU could fall apart again if their starting RB and QB don't get healthy. Injuries could definitely derail them again. Talk about frustrating for Kevin Wilson.

I think with OSU, they are really missing the deep threat that was Devin Smith. He was way underrated and really helped their passing game by being able to stretch the field. Obviously they still have guys capable of running deep routes, but that dude was ridiculous and forced teams to really stretch their defense. Devin Smith made things a lot easier for the QB's.

But I do think that this is the type of year where there are a lot of teams that are solid but not great, and there are going to be a lot of close games that will go either way..even when talking about OSU and MSU.

The SEC's "top team" got blown out over the weekend. There's a lot of parity this year. A matter of who shows up with a great game plan.

The one difference in the game (you can argue how much of one it is), is that IU pretty much played with Ohio State from kickoff to the final horn. Obviously, losing their QB hurt, but they still did ok after. They also played well in areas that haven't always been a strength (making some good defensive plays).

Purdue was completely MIA in the first half.

Both teams ended up losing, so it doesn't really matter.

Didn't surprise me that MSU dropped in the polls this week. I thought that OSU should drop as well. I think they are over rated.

And yes, the Big Ten does have some weak teams. Purdue should take advantage but will they???

Lol Purdue is a bottom feeder. If anything they are the team you play when you need to right your ship.

Guess we will see against Minnesota. I will be pleasantly shocked if we win.

I will be somewhat surprised too. Its a show me the win before I pick you type of mode.
