Biggie and agents

Given that Biggie's father is a sports agent, how would that work with regard to NCAA regulations and working with an agent? What does the NCAA constitute as working with an agent? A signed contract? Phone conversations? How would working with his father on a casual basis impact his ability to return to NCAA basketball? Even if Biggie's father represents him as an agent, would that be any different than any other player's parent representing his/her son in the draft process?

Thanks for any insight on this!

I think it would have to be shown that Barnes took specific actions to promote Biggie to some NBA team, or in general. I don't think a contract or exchange of money is required.

I would think Barnes would be extra careful and side on the side of caution so nothing could get pointed out as him acting that way.

They have come too far for someone to mistakenly accuse them of any wrong doing.

Let the kid have his dream, he sure has worked hard for it.

I am hopeful he comes back another year at Purdue, but I also want him to reach his goals and achieve the highest success however he calculates it.

I am a J. Taylor fan and can't wait to see him play hard this year and break out.

Love that kids drive and energy......Basil Smotherman too.....

This is similar to college coaches with sons who play high school basketball. Is the father/coach allowed to talk to his son/player during non-contact periods? Can dad attend his son's games?

According to recent NCAA guidance, up to $15,000 annually can be spent on modifications/remodeling to the home to construct physical walls to avoid contact during that period. Two additional "visits" per week are allowed for meals, subject to further guidelines:

If meat is served, no red meat
Butter is allowed as a "spread" but no jams, jellies, or preserves or cream cheese
Salad dressings cannot contain any balsamic vinegar or imported olive oil
No ice cream is allowed other than plain chocolate and vanilla

One additional "visit" per week may be allowed for review and supervision of homework assignments......meetings for "grounding" and other "discipline" are exempt from the no-contact period. Meetings for a "bona fide" family event, such as a wedding or funeral are also exempt.

Really? This was hashed out ad nauseum during his whole eligibility scare what, 6-7 months ago?

As his legal guardian, he can do things a legal guardian can do by the rules in the process. He doesn't get any more or less protection because he's an agent. Same thing in dealing with NBA teams. If he acts like anything more than a father...than he's an agent. The blessing here is that NBA teams wouldn't be the ones at this point talking money with anybody since he hasn't been drafted yet.....there is no point.

The only agent type things he'd be doing is fielding endorsement type deals and obviously that's a big no-no. I guess he could listen to offers....but couldn't solicit or engage without being considered an agent. It's kind of common sense stuff here...

All that said...I think this is pretty moot. If he gets a 2nd round rating....he gone.
