Big Visits

Trevion Williams and Brandon Johns are both visiting Purdue this week.

Carmody June 16-18.

Hope we can get a couple of these guys.

John's is interesting to me. He is always thought of as a MSU lock, and rightfully so. However he has visited a few times and sometimes kids just want to get out of their hometown when it is time to pick a college.

He is a 3/4 and with Vince (3/4) and Dakota(takes mins at 3 w/ 3 guard line up) graduating, there will be plenty of minutes available for him at Purdue as a Freshman.

Think it is a long shot, but encouraged the staff is getting him on campus so they can make their sales pitch.

I like Johns too, and with the logjam at MSU in the PF position, we have a legitimate shot. Definitely not a lock, but I wouldn't say it's a long shot either. He is the best option as he would fit right in from the day 1.

Trevion Williams is an intriguing prospect. I wouldn't mind getting him either, but if we do, we might have to change the way we play.

Marcus Bingham is in today for an unofficial visit. Per Corey Evans on twitter
Also per his twitter he is making a "top 9" soon. Assuming this will be his first cut list.

Hopefully the timing works in our favor

Supposedly 2019 point guard target Jeremiah Francis is supposed to attend via his team the Purdue team camp....we will see if that materializes. I know he visited UNC too recently.

I think alot of our regional MW recruits like Bingham & T. Williams that we want will give us a look, but history tells me we are in a pecking order bluebloods first, next tier of regional powerhouses of MSU and Louisville & lately even Xavier that lands the better players, next alot then go to their B1G home-state school in case of OSU, MN, WI and even IL....then Purdue battles rest of B1G with ND and Butler and competes for what they can get with the rest of the good regional players. DM and VE were two examples of this through CMPs hard work on the regional level of out of state players that just did not get caught up in this pecking order or in this case the home state went elsewhere.

CMP lately tries to circumvent and/or add to his regional recruiting by spying players early like CE, and Haas and lately Wheeler and Haarms working to get these way out of state guys before they become too known & CMP might be the only B1G team then after these guys.

Great thoughts and well-said. I think in a broad general sense, you are spot-on. Especially regarding those who we are "supposed" to get, like legacy players or local players. It's hard for an 18 year old or a parent to deny the allure of bluebloods or Louisville. Butler and Xavier are interesting aberrations. Butler's shine may have dimmed this week.

So can we assume since Johns is from EL that this is a "must get" recruit for Izzo and if he goes anywhere else than MSU it's a sure sign Izzo has a problem?

If Jackson ends up being a one and done, Izzo is going to need a very impressive 18 class. It's unlikely Bridges stays another year and JJJ has the potential to be a top 15 pick. A small class this year and a lot of seniors, they have a lot of talent walking out the door. He may be able to sell playing time, but if he has a bad '18 class that would indeed be a sign of a problem. A first round exit and then a second round exit. If they have another early exit and a bad class, it could be a sign of the end times. I am not saying that will happen, but MSU was incredibly mediocre and their top 5 recruit class was nothing short of dissapointing outside of Bridges. They got JJJ and Tillman and then struck out on any guards. They have three already in their '18 class and none of them are overly impressive. None that can come right in and fill the void of a Bridges or JJJ. Not much would make me happier if Painter steals Bingham and Williams out of Michigan. Not only is it a middle finger to MSU, but they are both top 70 type players and would be fantastic peices going forward to go with Wheeler, Eastern, Edwards, and Haarms.

Love to steal a recruit from MSU or the state of Michigan!

But when is the last time MSU had a bad class with more than 3 spots open? Michigan is not going to stand by either. We just don't traditionally get top 100 MI recruits or anyone out of MI really. Hope that changes, but not holding my breath.

MSU isn't really involved, and people in his circle say he won't be going to MSU.UM is the in state competition for him,and along with IU and PU comprise basically the top 3.

Since recruiting is fluid,I wanted to update the info I posted earlier. It seems that recent improved play has sparked renewed interest from MSU-at least that's info coming from Top 100 Camp in Virginia this week.Still his Mom did say in post visit interviews this past weekend that she would have no issue with him leaving Michigan for college.

Dowuona had a good visit this weekend but no commitment...... Yet.

I think he becomes a Boilermaker eventually.... Just a feeling.
I agree.....especially with Pitino in the soup...... if they did not get the punishment, I would have said between Purdue and the Cards...now I say Purdue has a great chance unless he stays down in Florida and goes to a in state school.

He has done his research and knows Purdue is the best school academics wise that has offered.

Smart kid and would look great in Black and Gold!

Talen Horton-Tucker of Chicago Simeon will likely visit later this month on his tour of a few B1G schools. Has no Purdue offer, but holds IL, Texas A&M, NW, Missouri, DePaul, BC & Iowa State offers. Video here....

Looks like he got an offer. Do not know how he compares to others but a little undersized for a 3....course he will be listed @ 6-7 @ Purdue..... But 6-5 guy who does alot of things on the court well.

Offer could be staff knowing they have very low odds of landing 1 or even 2 of... Jerome Hunter, Bingham, Williams, Johns, Bazley, Anderson, and other Frontliners they are looking at.....so with 4 scholarships they need to extend more offers......

Or the offer could be a signal to guys like Anderson that hey, we want you bad....but we need guys to commit that want To be Boilers now?
