Big Ten West

We need to either win at Wisconsin or have them get 1 more BT loss than us. Both are doable.

but I still think the road, as most years, runs through Madison
I'm more worried about the 2 road games in a row vs Minn and Terps. Minn has a big OLine and Morgan is still there. Terps seem to have an explosive O but they have Locksley as a coach.

Purdue is down their best defensive player, and, still has a lot of questions on that side of the ball.

I share your concern about those two games specifically, but, I am not sold yet on the idea that Purdue is clearly better than anyone else in the B1G on the schedule, save Indinia,

Winning there has eluded Purdue for so long and with teams that were definitely better that I am not holding my breath that it will happen...there have been better opportunities than this one in the past that were missed, and, I just am not sold yet on this team being able to win a game where it has to be able to run the ball, and, stop the run...more so with the injury to Graham.

Purdue has a lot to prove. I’m pretty confident we will get to 7/8 wins. I wouldn’t be shocked if we get to 10, but we’d have to run the ball well and play really focused. We might be better than all the teams in the west but the margin for error isn’t that big.

I’m going to rest on the thought that Penn St is a lot better than anyone knows right now and might be in the top 10 within 2-3 weeks. The fact that Purdue beat them in every phase except the scoreboard gives me a little confidence.

It seems to me that we are a lot deeper in most positions meaning we can weather injuries to key players unlike in years past. Brohm is building a very solid program

Agree. I don’t like to use bad officiating as an excuse but that call should be used as a case study to use replays on PI calls. A total travesty
Not only was there nobody held accountable, I would almost be willing to wager that the same crew somehow works the game there this year...I would not be surprised even a little if that somehow were to happen.

Agree on the whole...just wish that there would be some building at the LB and RB positions.

Maybe it was the competition but I was happy to see all our RB’s play well yesterday. Seems like we have 3 good ones
I think it had a lot to do with the competition.

Purdue can have success at/with the position, but, they still lack a genuine B1G-caliber RB at the position...I would love to see that addressed at some point, and, preferably sooner than later. It is not essential (as they have shown)...they can have success absent it...but, I have to think that they might have even greater success if they did have one (or more).

The ref who threw the flag was a St. Paul native IIRC. Would not surprise me either.
To beat MN, we'll have to soundly beat them to take any potential close call out of it. If anything goes to a review or subjective in the moment, forget it. That is unfortunately what will always haunt us.

I think Purdue could beat Wisconsin right now. Give Paul Chryst another month, and I don't know. I've thought that the last few years. Wisconsin often looks beatable coming out of the gate, but they get better. Unfortunately, Purdue usually seems to play them later in the season.

The B1G East is 14-0 in all their games so far, the West is 9-7
A horse race or any other sporting event is measured by the final score as the ultimate measure of success or failure. What happens during the process is not always indicative of how it will turn out. The East is 2-0 against the West (IU and PSU) and both of those were close games that could have easily gone the other way. I do not know if any trends can be seen in that.

ND's loss to OSU was not a bad one. They were competitive on the road against a very good team. However, the last one against Marshall is indicative of real problems. ND is usually over-rated as evidenced by their blow-ups in the bowl games. We'll see how this year turns out.

ND has a schedule that is not that tough. It has 3 games left against good teams (@BYU,Clemson and @USC) plus one against a mediocre UNC. The other games are against poor/fair teams. Their ability to have more than 8 wins is very much in doubt. I could see 6 wins or less easily.

I do think that the B1G West is a wide open race at this point. I can see Purdue as well as MN or Wisconsin winning.

I like Doerue, but, have never felt that he was a genuine threat at the position at this level...and, Purdue just has not recruited the position well at all during Brohm's time. They can scheme around it, and, have, but, it would be nice to have some solid guys at the position, and, it may become a big issue this coming weekend with Doerue now out (which, again, is compounded by not having recruited well at/for the position).

I question how good are the running backs at blocking. I think that has a lot to do with who plays.

King had a very healthy offer list coming out of HS. I remember him being a pretty big pickup. Injuries and illness have no doubt held him back.

If Purdue doesn't win the West this year, they've squandered away a huge opportunity.
Imagine this team with Bell and Karlaftis. It would have been nice to have a donor say $10MM…and Bell and Karlaftis accept.

Hey, here’s your B1G West title.

I hope we pull it off, but the 2018 recruiting class (and subsequent classes) stayed intact, this team would have won the Big West.

Meanwhile, Horvath has scored a touchdown in two consecutive games.
Can we just move on from Horvath. He wasn't the answer at tailback for Purdue and he really hasn't done anything in the NFL to disprove it .The guy has 1 carry and 2 rushing yards and he's not playing tailback.

I'm glad he's found his niche in the NFL as a short yardage guy but his college numbers are pretty pedestrian when you compare them to the guys that were here when Brohm arrived (Jones, Knox) or the set of running backs we had before those two guys (Hunt and Mostert). Was Horvath the best we had? Maybe, but that wasn't saying a whole lot.
