Best Stat of the Night...

Swanigan with ZERO three point attempts!!! Woohoo!

Seriously. I literally cover my eyes when he takes one. Thankfully it's somewhat funny because he has actually hit a couple clutch ones - but it usually leads to really bad ones.

Let's give credit where credit is due. Biggie has improved his shot selection and decision making as the year has gone on. He is a beast when he focuses on the things he does best and he's only getting better!

I don't mind 1 or 2 heat checks a game, but yeah, I think 0-5 at Maryland was a wake up call. I'm guessing there was a little chat with coach after that one.

Calasan would take one right off the bat and if he missed it he was probably done with 'em for the night. But if he hit it, yeah, he'd be shooting more.

That's what some of us have dubbed "The Chally Principle." Exponentially a factor of 2.75 if the first three is made.

Love that video. Brings back some great memories of great players. Lewjack, Rob, E, JJ and CK. We can all laugh about the Chally Principle but what I saw was grit, fire, passion and determination in that player. If we had that from every player on this team we could be unstoppable!!!!!

Still ballin'. Doing good first two games with new team. And yes, he is shooting 1-3 (33%) from threepoint land in those two games. Atta boy, Chally! I added one sentence to the bio listed below. Anyone care to guess which one?

Nemanja
Calasan

Caen Basket Calvados (NM1) added to their roster 31-year old Montenegrin-Serbian center Nemanja Calasan (204-85, college: Purdue). He started the season at Sutjeska in Montenegrin Erste Liga. In 15 games he had 3.1ppg and 2.3rpg this season. The last season Calasan played at Fribourg Olympic (LNA) in Swiss league. In 31 games he recorded 12.8ppg, 6.5rpg and 1.8apg. He helped them to make it to the cup final and to the league semifinals. A very spectacular season in his career as he was named to Eurobasket.com All-Swiss LNA Honorable Mention.
The previous (13-14) season Calasan played at Jean D'Arc Vichy Clermont Metropole. In 13 NM1 games he recorded 8.2ppg and 6.8rpg in 2013-14 season.
In 12-13 season he played at Monaco (ProB). In 24 games he recorded 11.7ppg, 7.0rpg and 2.0apg in 2012-13 season.
In 11-12 season Calasan played at BC Boncourt Red Team (LNA) in Switzerland. In 22 games he was fifth best scorer with impressive 17.7ppg and averaged 9.1rpg (leader !!!), 2.4apg and 1.3spg in 2011-12 season. A very spectacular year in his career as he was named to Eurobasket.com Swiss LNA All-Bosmans Team.
In 10-11 season he played at Gaz Metan (Liga Nationala) in Romanian league. In 14 games he recorded 3.4ppg and 2.4rpg in 2010-11 season. He contributed to his team making it to the semifinals. Calasan played in the final of Swiss LNA in 2014.
He has played also professionally in Greece (Panionios) and France (Charleville-Mezieres).
Calasan attended Purdue University until 2009 and it is his seventh season as a professional player. He is a notoriously GREAT 3-point shooter who often inspires the crowd to yell 'Noooooooo Chally YESSSSS!!"

He's still hot and cold. He went a couple games with no attempts - but then had 3 against Maryland (when he took his first one, even Dick Vitale pointed out how horrible he is at 3 point shots).

My problem with his 3 point shooting is it seems to come at the end of games. Also, while Hammons made it - he jacked one late in the game on a critical possession too.

Swanigan in general doesn't need to be shooting 3s. At least AJ has good stats. Swanigan's are crap from 3.

Yeah, Swanigan is shooting around 25% from 3.

The fact that he keeps taking them makes me wonder if he is lights out during practice.

Anyway, in addition to a bad shot, it pulls our best rebounder from the basket. All around a horrible possession.

Switzerland, Greece, France (including Monaco)... Not a bad way to spend your 20's and early 30's :) Good for him.

Agree. And it's not just the timing (often early in the shot clock), or the fact that he misses. Honestly, the shot itself looks really clunky-- like his form is not good. There are occasionally guys who will have really weird shooting mechanics, but still end up being really good shooters. But it is the exception rather than the rule, so my thought is that unless Biggie smooths his shot out a lot, he will always be around 25%.

I agree with all you've said there. A few numbers...

Since the first game against Maryland: 10.0 ppg, 51.0% FG, 33.3% 3Pt (17.6% of FGs are 3Pt)
B1G through the first Maryland game: 7.2 ppg, 38.8% FG, 16.0% 3Pt (26.3% of FGs were 3Pt).

Good stats. I'm surprised there's such a significant difference between the before and after, especially since we've played some of the better teams since your cutoff period. At the very least, he has not hit any kind of freshman wall. Cline seemingly hasn't either, for that matter. Not that I was entirely convinced that "the wall" existed anyway.
