I see this from a positive light. A lot of other rookies with injuries are cut or placed on practice squads leaving them open for other teams to claim.

No debate this injury sucks but it also shows how much patriots like him by placing him on IR

Just saw this.....really tough break for Ja'Whaun Bentley. I don't think New England has disclosed the specifics of his injury yet.

From various Boston news reports:

"He’s been heavily involved in the Patriots’ defense through three weeks, taking 69 percent of the team’s defensive snaps in Week 1, 42 percent in Week 2 and 78 percent in Week 3. In Sunday’s loss to the Lions, he came up with one of the few positive plays for the Patriots’ defense when he intercepted a Matthew Stafford pass early in the third quarter."

"Bentley, a fifth-round draft choice from Purdue, had made the largest impact among the team's rookie class. The trust he earned from the coaching staff was reflected in him having the communication device in his helmet Sunday against the Lions, when he led the defensive huddle."

I think the fact that he was on the field for 70+% of the defensive plays shows how much they like him more.

He's a highly utilized LB under contract for cheap for 4 years.....why would they get rid of him?
