Looking at the non-conference schedule, we really beat mediocre to bad teams. Vandy looks terrible, NM looks terrible, Florida looks meh. Butler looks like a top 15 team and we got buried by them despite the final score (Biggie made lucky shots and Butler missed open 3's and FTs). Vince needs to be a leader and have a killer instinct but does not and it kills the team. This is a horrific loss no matter how you spin it but not totally surprising.
I usually don't get too up or down about this but it is getting ridiculous. I agree about Vince needing to look to score more. May be our only guy who can create own shot. Need to turn a guy like that loose sometimes. There are guys on other teams that if they need a shot in the arm, they take over and get buckets ala Kendrick Nunn and Malcolm HillLooking at the non-conference schedule, we really beat mediocre to bad teams. Why, as a Purdue fan, am I not allowed to have a chance to enjoy athletic success? There was absolutely nothing entertaining about that game as a Purdue fan....or we could just be in a bit of a slump.
Really, we just need one of our "shooters" to actually start hitting some outside shots. No one can stop the other team forever. There has to be some balance and scoring ability.
Also, Davis had a poor game, statistically, which usually equals a poor showing for the whole team. We need him or Edwards to bring it every night, as we don't have a whole lot of other guys that can create their own shot.
Fate is interesting - a few years ago, we were drowning in "slashers" that couldn't shoot. Now we've just got a bunch of "catch and shoot" guys who are struggling to shoot .
The one lesson Purdue sports has taught me over the years is to not take this #%$! too seriously. It really doesn't matter - it's supposed to be fun and entertaining. When it isn't either of those, it's time to go do something else.
