We played like crap but only fell short of the loaded defending national champs. I'm not saying we should accept a moral victory, but let's be realistic, we were shorthanded and in foul trouble and still had every chance to win.

My point is that there is a lot of season yet to go and while disappointing, there is reason to be optimistic and if we play them again later in the season at fuller strength, I like our chances.

And yes, CMP coached a good game. So save the normal rhetoric.

Well coached game by CMP. Some bad calls on Haas and Swanigan were hurtful. The missed FGs by Haas were killers, but he was the reason we stayed in the game. We will need some level of perimeter scoring moving forward when we play elite teams. Lets hope that can come from Cline and Carsen.

Overall, lots of positives tonight including the heart and effort we played with. Also, the crowd and atmosphere were just awesome. I was really hoping we could pull this out given all of the pain and misery we've had since the Little Rock game and football season.

I don't feel like the team player like crap. They made some mistakes sure. But this team can be good. Lots of combos we can use.

Other than Vincent having an off game, some missed freebies and some strange calls on both ends, I am pleased.

I was surprised Spike wasn't in near the end. But I am not upset at all over that loss.

Let's hope we are following the old Izzo model of losing to great teams in November and then beating elite teams in March.

Let me quantify my played like crap statement, what I was referring to were the needless turnovers and missed free throws. All fixable and I think don't happen if this game is played later on in the season.

Lots of reasons to be optimistic thought.

That is a mystery to me also. Unless he is hurting he needs to be in the last few minutes of close games.

Thought CMP called a pretty good game. As mentioned a couple players didn't step up. Kind of disappointing we just can't hit the clutch threes against good teams. Game ending possession was dreadful.

I've calmed down, but stupid mistakes made me grit my teeth.
I'd rather see us make some stupid mistakes in the 2nd game of the season against a top 5 team while BEING AGGRESSIVE than playing not to lose (and making stupid mistakes). Learning to be aggressive early will help you win when it actually matters. Good game by all. Some stuff still to work on. Are there any really tall football players that can give us 5 fouls and 10 minutes? :)

Agreed, Let's hope we learn from this and get better because of it. Still crappy to have a golden opportunity slip through our hands. That "W" would have been big come March.

Shame we don't get to see if Taylor could handle that role. I thought smotherman did a good job filling in during the small ball phases for us. He had a couple of those high passes but those may become big plays later in the season.

The entire season will come down to the play of Thompson and Mathias. If they can be good to very good, Purdue will be a tough out. If they are average, Purdue will struggle. Mathias was 1-6 of the field for points. Thompson ended with 0 assists and 8 points. In the majority of the games this season, the front court will carry the team, but in the elite games this will be the matchups that dictate the results.

Fun and frustrating game to watch at the same time.

Some bad turnovers at critical times, the 2 passes by Basil and some disappointing ones by Vince. We had no problems with the Nova press, but still turned the ball over way too many times. Nova had 7 steals, we had only 2. Who is this team's Kramer?

As someone else said, we need a guard who can consistently hit the open 3. Too many good looks that missed, including the air ball 3 by Vince. Dakota and Carsen were 2-14. Why is Carsen taking 8 shots? First time I have seen him play and I was slightly disappointed. Looked too much like RJ or Scott. But only his 2nd game so he will hopefully learn from this one.

Hopefully we won't see too many guards like Hart. Miss AJ's rim protection. Still would have like to see us try a zone to try to stop the dribble penetration and keep the bigs out of foul trouble. I said last spring if ever there was a year to try it, this would be it.

On the plus side, a lot of grit and determination. Nice 2nd half by Isaac. Good rallies to come back when we were down, just couldn't hit the clutch shots. Biggie was awesome. Seems clear this is his team now. Even though no assists for PJ, he didn't turn the ball over and hit his shots. Also, we played surprisingly well against the zone tonight.

it was good to see us come back twice from double digit deficits but coming down the stretch we made too many unforced errors and missed way too many free throws. hit your fts and you win the game

Who's jumping off the ledge?!
Thought we played quite well despite the loss.
Definitely some areas to work on, but surely we can continue to improve

One suggestion -
Maybe during pregame warmups, purdue could play that video of haas's bad foul calls coach sent to the league last year on the video/scoreboard.... reminder for the zebras

Izzo has also made 7 final fours...Purdue has made a final four in 1980. Not a very good comparison

Yeah that was his point. It's better to play and lose to good teams early (like Izzo) than to blow out cupcakes. Purdue doesn't traditionally play a lot of big non-con games so hopefully this will help.
