Only fair to give a "report" on how Purdue's scout team offense looked today after saying how shaky it was on Day 1. To reiterate, not surprising it was shaky necessarily because a bunch of those guys are young guys who had no idea what was going to happen/was happening.
But, now they know.
And it was definitely better on Day 2 than Day 1.
Still not perfect, of course, but the linemen did a much better job of trying to increase the tempo, and, for the most part, Elijah Sindelar got the ball out of his hands quicker, more to the liking of the defensive coaches. Funny, at one point, Sindelar was told to throw the ball harder (after which he had a ball intercepted), so he just can't win right now, haha. But he's a smart dude, he'll figure it out quickly and give the D a great look by the time the season is rolling, I have no doubt.
Maybe best line of the day during that period came from D coordinator Greg Hudson -- who is usually good for at least one nice one-liner per practice. There's only one group of O-linemen over there, so at one point he told them to stop and take a short break. "Give that offensive line a drink on me," he said. "Give them a double." Funny to see D-tackle Michael Rouse quickly turn his head after the "double" comment and Hudson joking that Rouse was wondering where his drink was.
A couple reps after that, Hudson had the group take another drink break and went over to slap some guys on the helmets and tell them good job.
