Did KBD even step on the floor last night? Is he hurt or what. This kid has to be regretting picking the buckeyes.

They just announced last night that he's out for the season with a stress fracture in his leg I think.

How is he able to RS? He played in a majority of their games already and given it is after the New Year, how would he be granted a medical?

I'm not an expert on this......although I did stay @ a Holiday Inn Express last night.....

I think it may hinge on when the "injury" occurred. In looking at the guidelines:

to be eligible for a medical hardship waiver, a student-athlete has to meet the following criteria:
  • The student-athlete must suffer the injury during one of their four seasons of college competition or during the senior year of high school.
  • The injury must be incapacitating. That means it must be a season-ending injury.
  • The injury must occur prior to the start of the second half of the season.
  • The student-athlete must not have competed in more than 30% of the season or three contests, whichever is greater.
He's played in 9 games, which would be 30% or less if OSU plays at least 30 games, which will happen. From what I understand, this injury goes back to the off-season (stress fracture)...not one that occurred in the second half of the season (or conference play essentially). I would be surprised if Ohio State applies for the medical hardship waiver, and it is not granted. Regardless, hope he heals up and gets a chance to continue to play for his school and get a degree.

hummel was hurt late in the season and did he not get a medical redshirt? have the rules changed since then?

No.

Rob Hummel's injury in 2010, though season-ending, didn't qualify for the medical hardship waiver because it occurred in the second half of the season. In addition, RH played in more than 30% of Purdue's season that year. 2011 was a regular red-shirt year because RH sat out the entire season. Unfortunate for Rob and Purdue, as has been documented countless times. His teams went to five NCAA tournaments, but he missed two of them.....and those two had the greatest potential in most people's opinions.

But did you save $$$ by switching to Geico???

It's unfortunate for KBD and OSU (don't want to see any respectable player have repeated injuries) but fortunate for PU (with the way things have played out the last 2-3 years) that they ended up getting VE instead of KBD.
