I know there have been a few posts about Bart, but I wanted to provide a little more info and some background to clarify. He underwent a liver and heart transplant about 2 weeks ago as a result of a 20 year bout with amyloidosis. His recovery is on schedule but it will be a very challenging journey, including the next 3 months at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville.
For those that don’t know of Bart, he was a receiver on the Purdue football team that won 3 straight bowl games in the late 70’s, and upon graduation he was ranked second among Purdue’s all-time leaders in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns.
For those have watched him play, you will recall a guy with tremendous tenacity, toughness and competitiveness. You will not be surprised to know that he has had that same approach all along including in his recovery and has been an inspiration to many.
He’s got a great support system led by his wife Nancy and daughters Amy and Lia, as well as many family members, friends and Knuckleheads. If you want to follow along, there is an Instagram page called bartsheart that provides updates.
Please keep Bart and his family in your thoughts and/or prayers.
