Bad loss for Iowa

And the big 10 as well! Bottom half of the league not looking very good
Yeah, in particular I'm concerned that the middle of the Big Ten isn't very good. In our 14 team league, I'd say that generally 9 or 10 teams should have legitimate tourney hopes into the last week or two of the season. I'm worried we are very weak in the 6-10 range and that we may only 6 or 7 teams with much of a chance come early February. Admittedly, very little of that opinion is based off the season so far. I came into the year thinking that.

Beyond us, MSU, and Minnesota I'm not sure what else we have. Maryland might be good. Still want to see more from them. I'm on the fence with Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State. Hopefully one of them emerges as a top 25 team.

Yep, we might have to start rooting for IU.......

I think next year the B1G will be better, quite a few top 100 recruits are headed for our conference. Besides MSU, Minny, and Purdue I don't see a consistent top25 team. Northwestern, Maryland and Wisconsin are probably tourney teams (I am highest on Maryland) but after that it's not looking good at all. Honestly we either need to beat all of Nova, Zona and Louisville, or go 15-3 minimum in conference to get a 3 seed or higher.

Agree top 4 are Purdue, Minny, MSU, and Maryland.

I'm thinking Ohio State and Penn State might be dark horse tourney teams this year too and finish around 5th/6th in conference. Both have passed the eye test so far and looked better than Wisconsin and Northwestern in terms of having athletes that can play.

Penn State has huge resume game opportunity against Texas AM tonight and Ohio State is in the P80 and starts off against a beatable Top 25 Gonzaga team that lost a lot of talent/experience last year.

Really disappointed in Iowa loss, but not surprised. Mccaffery is the most overrated coach in the B1G and his teams are inconsistent every year.

WAY too early to be making statements like this.

Probably, but Purdue won the B1G last year by 2 games and still only got a 4 seed. That was because perception of the B1G was that it wasn't a very good conference. Whether that was a correct perception or not, the B1G didn't help itself OOC last year to change that perception and so far it has crapped the bed again this year.

Purdue and Minny have the 2 best wins, good road wins for sure, but they were against teams that most likely will be close to the bubble come tourney time. MSU losing to Duke (sure almost everyone loses to Duke but the loss just reinforced perception of ACC superiority), Northwestern looking awful and Wisky losing at home already. We still have early season tourneys and the ACC-B1G challenge to change that perception, I just don't see it happening.

Let's not kid ourselves. We lost to Nova and lost at Louisville. We ran through the conference and were in line for a 3 seed until we shit the bed in the BTT. Losing to a mediocre Michigan team twice in three weeks made us undeserving of a 3 seed.
This year if we beat two top 5 teams and lville and go 15-3 in conference, that would probably put us on at least the 2 line unless-once again- we stumble to the finish in the BTT.

If we do both of those thing we are looking at what, 30-4 with a BTT loss? That could be a 1 seed honestly. I'm saying unless the B1G turns it around in OOC games we can't rely on simply being a top tier B1G team to get us a top 2 or 3 seed like it could have 5 years ago.

What we need to do is take matters into our own hands and just win this dang tourney and beat Louisville. Then it won't matter if we lose a few in conference games.

Oh I completely agree with that. We may be looking at several triple digit RPI teams in conference. If I remember correctly, I think last year we beat Rutgers and our RPI went down. It makes any lapse during the big ten season that much worse because getting upset means losing to a 100+ RPI team.

There was another bad loss for the Hawkeyes today (in terms of their NCAA Tournament hopes), losing to a solid but not spectacular South Dakota State team. Losses to Louisiana-Lafayette (formerly known as SW Louisiana) and SDSU make them appear to be an early candidate for an NIT bid.

Unless of course you flip Purdue out of that scenario and put in MSU or IU....then of course it would be totally different.
