ESPN is reporting the attendance was 41k. Does this seem right to people who were there?

I thought the main stands looked pretty good on TV, especially the students. Maybe my expectations were just really low.

The U looked bad. I wish they would move the band back to right behind the goalpost. It makes extra points look a lot better on TV. Does anyone know why they changed it in the first place?

Do many people go to the 211 degree pep rally? What's the consensus on this from people who have gone?

They moved the band to allow more room to replace the South end zone section - not that it's currently needed.

211. It's interesting, but personally, I miss the pre-game concert at the hill and then following the band to the stadium. That was awesome.

I was wondering how many people go to the pregame events at Purdue. I know they have some different events but I would imagine attendance would be low?

I had forgotten that 211 replaced Slaytor concert.

That very much disappoints me... It made for a very good tailgate atmosphere. And my favorite thing was walking with the band from there to the stadium.

I was in the band for four years and drum major for one season. I knew A LOT of band members who said they enjoyed the pregame concert at Slayter more than the game itself. It allowed the band to see friends and family along with grabbing a bite to eat. The march to the stadium was always so fun and seemed to really build excitement for everyone around us. I went to one of the 211 sessions, and I wasn't really impressed. It seems forced and just doesn't build much anticipation. If they are going to do something like that, make it like Penn State does and have it the night before the game, invite some alums and so forth to speak as well. It's a good time to introduce the 'Shout' leader along with bringing in a possible concert or two before big games (VT, Homecoming, Bucket Game). Easily would create a great buzz the night before and would carry over to the next day!

The scrapping of Slayter as a premiere tailgate location was a dumb decision. It used to be the "it" place to tailgate - which is great for the athletic department because it isn't the closest parking.

That seems like a fairly accurate figure. It was kinda sparse in the north end zone, as usual, but other than that it looked solid. I was impressed by the student turnout, especially given the Marshall outcome and the day's opponent. I'd say they filled up close to four sections. Would expect more for this week's game vs. VT

Can you guys give me an idea of what takes place at the boilermaker crossing and 211 session? Are these well attended?

In the 211 session the team is introduced,Hazell makes a few comments, the cheerleaders, golden and etc perform, the band plays some rousing music. It's fun and gets you into the spirit before the game. Worth attending. Norm

The AAMB used to play the same rousing music at Slayter before the game and there was an entire hill of tailgaters around to appreciate it. In addition, the band would march from the drill field past many of the tailgates on the way to Slayter which further increased its visibility. It was great PR for the band and added tremendously to the overall atmosphere.

This is veering a bit off-topic, but in addition to a decision like this - the choice to have College Gameday in the location they did was another horrible decision. It was a beautiful backdrop. I lived in Owen as a freshman and appreciate it, but I'd never showcase it on national television.

College Gameday was broadcast from the Track and Field.

They moved the band before the south endzone was removed though... It was my senior year and thought it was a dumb move also a dumb move micing up the band because there was like a .2 second delay.

My bad on when the band moved. I thought I read it somewhere.

I think most would agree that we should end the 211 and go back to Slayter. As a student, my family always tailgated on Slayter. As an alum, I tailgated in the intramural lots. Even on the intramural lots you could hear the band and we made to sure to make our way over just in time to march with them to the stadium. I think it got everyone involved.

Now, right after the 211, everyone just kind of disperses to kill time before the game. Not nearly the same effect.

I actually like tailgating on the golf course more than Slayter or the IM fields. Great area to toss the football, kick off your shoes (weather permitting) and a short walk to the stadium.

Totally agree, D and T lots on the golf course are my personal favorites. I understand this year is unique given construction, but I really hope they don't limit use of those lots too much long term to kill the atmosphere.

Where does the band do the post-game concert? I always liked it at the engineering mall. Do they still line up and run into Elliott?

Agree with the pregame at the hill haven't been to the 211 prefer to tailgate after driving in

Yes - and the backdrop was a dorm.
you could see the press box but it was pretty distant.
could have gone closer, maybe just behind Cary quad or even from old grand Prix track would have been a good backdrop.
