1) diaco and the defense
> much more solid this year and we’ve gotten rid of some big problems
> we aren’t in a hard 3 man front. That doesn’t work in the big ten, but it seems to be a hybrid look to me
> we lost george who would be starting for Clemson or Alabama this year.. the defense got worse cause george looks like friggin Dan Hampton and Purdue doesn’t have a next man up in the same universe

2) O’Connell
> he played well .. is he slow? Yes. If he was fast he’d be at a better program with that arm. He was also making what his 7th start? 6th? The game will slow down
> I’m a Plummer guy, but I’d Aiden is gonna play like that then there’s a chance Plummer isn’t showing THAT

And I think one thing I haven’t seen from anyone...

Wow the improvement on the OL. It is easy to forget that they couldn’t get push in the running game against anyone last year. They were young and BAD.

I’d say dale has acquitted himself quite nicely...

Agree on all points. Especially the O-line improvements from last year. Just wow do they look better.

I would also add that history has show us that you don’t have to be mobile in the least to be a GREAT QB. He has taken a couple sacks he shouldn’t have but its decision making and not mobility causing that.

And one of the sacks yesterday was a completely unblocked lineman coming from the blind side.

I loved hartwig when he first committed. and YES, if we recruited more elite linemen like him, we wouldn't need to redshirt them as freshmen to build them up. I believe Hartwig also proved elite freshmen linemen can start and do very well as a starter at Purdue. We don't need to follow the old methods of recruiting undersized linemen and then taking 1-2 years developing them. Just start out with an elite lineman and make them into an All American ! thank you.

To which the announcer said O’Connell was giving Hermanns a look. I think some posters here think that critiques posted here aren’t often magnified on the sideline

This is especially true when Purdue’s upper class men OL haven’t exactly been great players lol

Agreed. O’Connell May process faster than Plummer but he’s still a player with fewer than ten starts. The game will slow down for him

I’m a little concerned about injuries to the OL, lost another yesterday and it looked significant. That’s two in two weeks. I’ve been very impressed with their improvement but I don’t think we can sustain too many more injuries without a drop off.

I agree. Any time you get multiple injuries at one position group it gets concerning. They have been rotating like 9-10 linemen though so hopefully we will be fine. Really impressed with that group.

I sincerely want Garvin to be ok... but a lot of times you’ll have a young player who is infinitely more talented (see Marvin grant v Brennan) and a coaches natural reaction is “yeah but playing the young guy is hard work.” Unfortunately they were left with no choice yesterday and ended up with a better player on the field because of it.

I think Hartwig is probably the more talented player even now but you hate to lose the depth. Craig was the bigger loss in my opinion but hopefully he’s not done for the year. With this coaching staff injuries are never really clearly communicated but I understand that to a certain extent.

Hate to lose a cam Craig no matter who you got. Stud
