Are DBs taught not to turn around in WR coverage?

When they are not getting beat that is.

It appeared to me that if our DB would have turned around a few times they could have knocked it down or intercepted it.

Yes, it's taught, but it's hard to implement in the moment.
Even with their back turned while the ball's in the air, a lot of good DBs can anticipate the ball coming by reading the WR and then they have to quickly get their head around an find the ball. Easier said than done but it's part of the job.

I have seen this issue for 2 decades so it spans coaching staffs. Right, it’s easier said than done. Speed is key if they are just trying to catch up.

I think our DBs all have tunnel vision. Once the receiver blows by them they can no longer see them so forget about it.

If it’s a gut feeling, how hard is it if you’re a DB to speculate that the ball is going to Palmer? And to follow him and look for the ball? And for a coach to provide double coverage and dare the opponent to throw to somebody else? Doesn’t the fool me once philosophy apply?

Hit the nail on the head. CB's and Safety's should be well aware of WR1 in scouting reports and practice towards them. Have watched a LOT of football over the years and never have seen a player like Palmer blow by our CB's and Safety time and again. It was as if he was in XBOX expert mode and we were using Atari 2600.
Sure, he is an NFL quality player, but Rondale Moore and David Bell were defensed properly quite a lot from our opponents in the 2018 and 2021 timeframes. We never had an answer from play one till end of game. Mind boggling and poor adjustments.

I do think a lot of the miscues, blown coverages or just letting Palmer get free were coaching and scheme errors. The fact of the matter is, you continued to let one guy get behind you or get wide open. The DB coach and DC have to have a better plan to counter whatever Neb was doing on O to get those plays.
