Iowa vs. Purdue
50 years ago this month (Oct 2) was my first College Football game. West Lafayette for Iowa at Purdue.
Happy Homecoming this week from Iowa City, as Iowa hosts Purdue. There have been some good, bad and ugly ones through the years.
My first memory of the game.
Should be a good one on Saturday. It was 10 years later.

He played against Minnesota .. he will be 100%. The gift for you guys is:

There is no way Bell goes for less than 150 and two touchdowns. Stone cold lock. It doesn’t matter who is on the offensive line and throwing the ball.
He’s going to do what Purdue wide receivers do against Iowa.
You’re probably right. He went 6-120 last week tho and it didn’t really mean that much for the final score. He should feast because he’s elite but I think it means a 27-14 type game that we never lead and aren’t ever closer than 7.
Where we’ve always beat Iowa under brohm is with deep passes over the left corner and bell obviously plays right…
So this week we basically need Milton Wright to be as good as Terry Wright and Anthony Mahoungou and we have a chance. If not woof
Can I ask you? Ever since ferentz got up and running you guys have had much better results than us vs the field. If I had predicted the results in each of the previous meetings of ferentz vs brohm without any info on previous meetings I’d have predicted Iowa being 4-0. As much as I’ve been told to hate you, I have the utmost respect for Iowa. It stands as a model of what we COULD be from a similar locale if we ever got our crap together …
so.. is there something about the way you play your defense that makes it so that Purdue receivers have to just blow by your corners down the left side?
id honestly love it if you were just like “oh yeah we play x defense this way and it works against the rest of the big ten, but we just can’t change it for one opponent” so that If Beth mowens is like “Iowa no longer running that defense” I can go hide in my basement with some preparation H
hey Iowa guests, what are your opines on psu fans and their "coach" saying Iowa fans were bush league for booing the "injured" psu players? I thought it was more than coincidence that they were on the ground after every big Iowa gain.
I don’t think anyone should have done this, and I didn’t do this. But I understand why others did it.
I also think no one should care what PSU or Franklin says, thinks or does. But that’s me and I don’t care.

I have a friend who was a freshman at Iowa in 1963. He had season football tickets including the Notre Dame at Iowa game scheduled on November 23. President Kennedy was assassinated the previous day and the game was cancelled. He still has the tickets and says they have become collectors' items worth over $1,000 each.
Its you guys and NW. I have no idea or I’d send Phil Parker an email lol. NW stays patient and plays defense, refuses to make mistakes. For you guys there’s always a receiver open. I’m not enough of a technical football guy to identify why.

Not a fan of booing. But some of their hurt players were suspect.
I still have nightmares about David Bell. I wake up and he is like the Grim Reaper for Iowa Defense. Hopefully the job we did on Dotson will come in play this week for Bell. He scares me for good reason.
I know the SEC guys, especially Georgia and Kentucky, have zero respect for Franklin from his time at Vandy. Now think about the SEC and what you gotta do to stand out as a dirty coach down there. Nuff said.
I will be going with friends! We live in Quad cities so will be making the short drive. Graduated from Purdue but also did a Iowa MBA - torn on who to root for? Thinking a Purdue Shirt with Iowa hat. But my heart does lie with the Boilers!
Good question as to the Iowa defense. I'm not sure anyone would have the right answer to it. Well, maybe someone does but they know more about football than I do.
For whatever reason, Purdue's QB's are able to get the ball out very quickly against Iowa without feeling much pressure. Even in games against other teams where Iowa doesn't get many sacks, Iowa's front 4 is at least moving the QB off his spot or hurrying the throw. Some of it has also been just some very good throws and catches. Looking at the game especially from 2018 I believe, there were some just fantastic throws to receivers who weren't overly open. Sometimes you just have to tip your hat to the other team.
Iowa's back 7 this year is probably the best it has been under Ferentz. That doesn't mean that Purdue won't have success throwing the ball, but Iowa's LB's especially are as a group the best Iowa has had. What that means for Saturday, I have no idea.
Purdue is going to do one of two things.. score 27 with a good amount of yards and a good chance to win, or look like they did against TCU in 2019 lol
