I missed most of it and only got to see a few minutes at the end. Handles the ball about half the time. Plays pretty vertical and is certainly not your proto PG. I see a pretty natural 3, but a person that can play the 1 as well. He should be well served in a motion offense that allows a lot of offensive reads and versatility. Last guy with that size that played that vertical was magic. He does appear to have a rounded offensive game although my limited viewing he never took an outside shot. The other team had a player going to Duke that ran up the stat sheet as well named Wendal Carter. Credit goes to OldBoiler52 for the links and info.

stats Pace (GA) vs. Evanston (IL) on @StatBroadcast - http://statb.us/b/154589 Eastern named player of the game . Championship tomorrow

Is it typical of Eastern to have 19 shots and 4 assists? If that's normal it will be odd to see two Purdue players with that mentality in the same backcourt. Probably in a good way.

He's the alpha on his high school team. He has to shoot that much.

No question about it. If you looked at any high D1 college player's HS stats you will see the same. They are that much better than the rest of us.

I admit

I admit I only saw a few minutes and know very little about Nojel's play. The little I saw...and I admit it was a little, I'm not sure he isn't more of a 3...and a good ball handler for a 3. I think he would not guard a 1 on D, but a 2,3 or 4 on D. He might be a 2, but as I said I couldn't tell what kind of a shooter he is and I usually think of a 2 as a better shooter than a 3 and the 3 as a better rebounder than a 2. Now, even though it appears to me that he is "today" more of a 3...if the opposing teams put a 3 on him as more of a match, he could float out and play more of a 1 spot assuming you had a 1 that could go to more of a two spot ...like Carsen and a 2 that slides to a 3 spot because I don't see a lot of difference between the 2 and 3 spots in most teams other than 2's are generally better shooters than 3's and 3's are generally better rebounders than 2's. He will bring size, great ball handling for his size, good vision (that I could tell) and versatility to be a complete ball player..again not knowing how his shot is today...

"No-Jelly all Jam !" I wish that was my comment but I quoted an announcer from one of Nojel's games . I have now watched 6 of his games this year . IMO he is a better ball handling Vince Edwards however Vince has a better outside shot . I am referring to Vince as a high school player . I watched over 20 of his hs games . They are mirror images to me their games are the same other than Vince would shoot from the outside first and Nojel tries to take it to the rim first . The kid is an elite player he will keep us at or near the top of the B1G . I know Painter recruited him as a PG but he looks more like a wing to me . I used the term elite and he is ! We got a good one he will play at the next level . Its not easy to describe his game he is a competitor who does everything at a high level . He never seems to get rattled he just makes adjustment to improve his advantage over you . Every team needs a go to guy when things are going south he fills that need . That is why I call him elite whatever his team needs he provides to get them back in front . He is on the same level as E'twaun , Robbie , and Vince IMO . He is the best of the 2017 class and will contribute right away for us . The comments about him taking a lot of shots he really doesn't most of his shots come off of offensive rebounds . But when his team needs a basket yes he is going to shoot it . The announcers who called every game of this tourney called him and Carter the two best players in the tourney . Wendell Carter Jr is a lottery pick no doubt about it rated as a 5 star and # 3 player in the country he was out standing one of the best hs players I have ever seen . Yet the announcers were torn between him and Nojel . The color commentator is a retired D1 head coach and was an assistant under Tubby Smith for what its worth . Were gonna love him at Purdue !

Well, I guess my very few minutes of watching him agree with what you stated from seeing him play 20 games...except I didn't see him shooting an outside shot to know for certain how good of a shooter he is. I expect Nojel would like a lot of playing time at the 1 and that was probably discussed.

I saw the entire game and agree with most of OB's comments. The two things that stood out for me were A) His confidence. This kid oozes it. Wants the ball when things get tight and knows what to do with it. He and Carsen are alike in this way, the difference being Carsen is more of a scorer and Nojel is more of a facilitator. B) He is a walking mismatch. Anyone his size he simply blows by with elite level ball handling. If you put a smaller, quicker player on him, he takes them down to the post and abuses them. I will say he is not going to take the outside shot often but, frankly, he doesn't have to. I also think OB's Vince comparison is valid. However, Eastern's much quicker off the dribble. Both have great vision and are excellent rebounders. Special player here boys.

I know I would take a couple V. Edwards on a team. Surround them with some role players and you have a pretty damn good team.

Thanks a lot guys. Now I'm irrationally excited about the future too. I really hope Ewing can be a solid big and continue that Purdue tradition with the backcourt seemingly catching up

Let me apologize for taking over this thread . I am so amped after having watched him again tonight he scored 8 points in the first 4 minutes tonight then picked up 2 fouls and sat until 1 minute remaining in the half after hitting a shot to tie the game at the start of the 2nd two more fouls in all he only played 23 of 36 minutes . Not the only story though his team down 8 with 5:21 remaining he scored all 18 of his teams finial points . I'm not sure how much he played in the finial 5:21 maybe half as they would sub him out on defense after every basket he made ( 4 fouls) . After he tied the game on 3 free throws and 7 seconds remaining they subbed him out and the team from Philly hit a buzzer beater to win 78 - 76 . He scored against double and triple teams on sheer talent and a will to win . It was nothing short of amazing everyone in the gym and on the floor knew he was going to score and yet he did just that . If you think he did it against a cupcake he didn't he did it against two D1 guards ( Rhode Island & S. Carolina ) He made 3 three's tonight on 3 of 7 shooting overall he shot 50 % It was best and most dominating last few minutes I have ever seen .

I watched it too and agree with everything you said. He had ice in his veins hitting that 3-pointer and every FT at the end. He seemed to be in complete control. Just one box-out as time expired and it could have been a different outcome. It was a good championship-level game.
