Any update on the IU RB transfer?

Those 3 walk-ons turned down scholarships offers from Alabama so theres that.

I would think since his transfer passed the deadline he would have to have some kind of hardship attached to it. Iā€™m guessing heā€™ll probably have to wait till next year.

"Carr, a 6-foot, 215-pound senior, comes to IU following four seasons at USC where he never quite became a featured back."

Who else was an Alabama recruit?

1. Can he play this season?
2. Will he play this game?

I think it would be humorous if James had a breakout season with a dominant performance in the Bucket game. šŸ˜
He transferred back out

YES...

Update:

According to the IU fans, when he was still at the football mega factory known as "IU Football", he was buried on the depth chart behind 3 walk on players, was not going to see the field, didn't want to compete, so he decided to transfer to Purdue where he'll play every down.
I read the same thing in today's IU Star, but their story/5 part miniseries when the guy came to IU, was praised far & wide as earthshattering & ground breaking journalism. When Robin Miller wrote there, they still had some integrity & (some) objective criticism toward IU & Purdue. Now, they just print what makes the IU base come back for more/IU fluff.

The root of all evil

$$$, $$$, $$$

But most importantly, is Spegal going to get playing time?

He doesnā€™t like football anymore.. he just wants to be a janitor at Harvard and solve math problems in anonymity.. leave him alone

Already redshirted his freshman year, I believe
No. According to his IU profile, he "played in all 13 games, with two starts" during his freshman year. He also played in 2020 -- but that was a "freebee" year -- so by my unqualified understanding he should have 3 years of eligibility left, and could redshirt this season if he doesn't play in more than 4 games.

Note that the GBI article on his transfer it said, "He should have two seasons of eligibility remaining, though such things are a moving target nowadays post-COVID."

James played in 10 games as a true freshman therefore isnā€™t eligible to apply a redshirt. Last year was a free year. James is a junior academically/sophomore eligibility. He has 3 years of eligibility remaining. Old rule is that you got 5 years to play 4, unless a medical redshirt was granted (6th year senior). I would imagine if James doesnā€™t receive a waiver, he would have to use his redshirt to preserve a year of eligibility since his clock has started. In the event he does transfer to another D1 school he would have to sit out a year as the free transfer waiver can only be applied once. If James wants to remain a D1 player, he needs to stick it out at Purdue or get some major leniency from the NCAA.

EDIT: as I re-read this, if the NCAA doesnā€™t grant an immediate waiver this year he could theoretically use this transfer as a sit out year and still be able to apply for the one time waiver next year so long as he files his paperwork by the due date.

I can barely make heads and tails of what you wrote, but I think I get the gist of it.

James still has a redshirt year. What happened as a FR is irrelevant. He still can apply a RS.

Last year does not count toward his eligibility. At all. He's not alone... all student athletes played 2020/21 without it affecting his/her eligibility.

So.... his FR year counts as one year of eligibility. Last year does not. This year... he can play OR he can be deemed ineligible to play. Regardless, he will STILL have 3 years to play.

Correct.

Thatā€™s what I said.

ā€œJunior academically/sophomore eligibilityā€.

If he doesnā€™t get a waiver this year, he still has the ability to transfer one time without penalty.

right.
His "true freshman" year has nothing to do with redshirting.
I know.

I was replying to Hausta01 (who I forgot to quote) who assumed he redshirted as a freshman. He played 10 games and therefore isn't allowed to apply for a redshirt for his true freshman year.
