Any thoughts about new Commission Kevin Warren's 1st year on the job?

I'm not a fan. Just gets thru a complete full year, then shuts down the programs that fund all other aspects of Universities. Won't surprise me one bit that Basketball season will be doomed too.
Tough decisions are pushed aside for popular decisions and still gets that big pay check. I hope he resigns sooner than later.
I also hope that both the SEC and ACC play full seasons (wishful thinking) just to rub it in Warren's face.

Yes. Heard that and checked it out for myself too. I hope Kevin gets asked those questions directly. Like I said, if SEC and ACC play and get a full season in. Fire Kevin Warren immediately for conduct detrimental to the League.

They are taking advantage of a Golden, Once-In-A-Lifetime opportunity to get every sports pair of eyeballs on their product for the fall. When the smoke clears, even with more alumni, I see the BT taking a back seat to them in viewership going forward if they play. As for the Commish, like it or not he will have presided over the single greatest cash loss the league has ever taken.

And he should be held accountable with a Vote of no confidence.

That was happening regardless of playing or not. There wasn’t going to be any fans

Wait! You mean his son has not opted out of playing this fall???
Wonder if Kevin Warren disclosed his conflict of interest with his son playing in SEC before overseeing the Vote of Big Ten playing this fall or not?
Hope that Legal action could be taken on that alone.

You people are acting like Warren and the B1G WANT to cancel the season just to **** everybody over. Give me a break.

Legal action if the B1G cancels but the SEC plays? Give me a break.

Speak with intelligence rather than emotion.

And anyway, it's certainly not Warren's unilateral decision. The conference ADs and Presidents are part of this.

P.S. And believe me I want the season to be played. Not just because I'm a football fan. I want normalcy. I want some fun. And I also am 10 days from helping open up a Sports Book in a casino that kinda needs football to operate well.

A leader calms everyone during the storm. It is stormin' BIG TIME right now. There are players from Ohio State stating publicly that if no Big Ten Season is played, jump to SEC. Yes, that is emotions and would take a few years to adjust, but it would not be far fetched if SEC and ACC plays to see existing Big Ten Teams start looking around. All that Delaney built will change in a few short years. Thanks to Kevin Warren not leading thru the Storm.

So we are on the same page here! Do we cry in our beer or call for change?
Rumor has it that Big Ten is trying to walk back the decision. We'll see.

My only point is that I don't want to be accused of wanting the season to be cancelled simply because I may disagree on certain opinions.

This has nothing to do with the current resident in the White House. It does have everything to do with protecting Purdue students, their parents and siblings, the fans of the league and everyone else. Those students are responsible in a large way for the season getting cancelled by gathering with large groups during the summer, sharing the virus with each other, and escalating the current rise in cases. The biggest fallacy of this whole thing is "young people can't get it".

One question and not to start an argument with you....are you willing to risk one student athlete's life or health just so you can watch a game? I'm not and believe if they postpone it to Spring, it's the right move for everyone. But then, I wear a mask when out in public too.

Hey! agree w/everything you said. No argument from me. I was just replying to the poster who was putting everything on the new Commissioner. By saying (Leader calms everyone during the storm). Wanted him to know that's not necessarily true.

Good...they just reported the first case of it in a child under a year. Four months. I'll go so far as to say maybe if folks would simply use the six foot rule and wash their hands, this would decline rapidly. I wear a mask when out, to protect others were I to have it.

A couple of things...
One, I haven't seen that "fallacy". I've read (and reported on) a lot of data which demonstrates the extraordinarily low mortality rate for the 0-24 age group. In spite of that we still have people pushing this as something it is not. (Or, has not been, to this point.)

Two, this argument of "are you willing to risk one student athlete's life or health just so you can watch a game" is disingenuous, at best. Ever heard of CTE? Or of players being paralyzed playing a game that entertains you? Or, players who die from heatstroke? So... you're okay with that.

Wearing a mask doesn't get you any "brownie points". It only makes you sound self-righteous... positioning yourself as morally superior. (You're not.)

This is meant for TwinDegrees2:
Any athlete that steps onto a field can literally die during competition be it from heat stroke, heart attack, CTE brain injury, broken neck, broken limbs severing an artery, etc etc. We cannot guarantee those players will be safe. Should we get rid of all sports?
Let's see what tomorrow brings. If SEC and ACC are making a go of it, then BIG should as well.
Stop with the "if we can keep one person alive it is worth it moment". Are you going to stop driving and flying to save your life and those you love, will it be worth it? You'd have to go into a bubble and never come out so you can be protected. I'll go about my business with masks and safe protocols and accept the minimal risks that come with it.

Wearing a mask doesn't get any brownie points. On that one statement you're correct. It shows you care about someone else more than yourself. If that's being morally superior, I guess those who do are.

Wearing a mask was a throwaway statement... completely irrelevant.

Wearing a mask doesn't "show" anything, either. Lot's of people care deeply about others, but also have issues with the masks. Complying or not doesn't make a person care more or less.

Oh, and FWIW, I've been known to wear a mask in public. That's for the "Karens" on this forum who are ready to scream at me about wanting to kill Grandma...

Democrats is the blame for all this They are so hungry for power they will stop at nothing even destroying there own country.

actually stupid people who love to party and socialize are to blame. If you could have just followed some simple rules, like people in other countries did. BUT NO, my Constitutional rights to not wear a mask and to stay at home are being violated. You brought it on yourselves. As soon as the bars opened, .........poof, the season was gone.

I want some football this fall. If the Big Ten presidents vote & Mitch votes No to fall football, he needs to be fired immediately. He’s been around to long to not realize we need football this fall. I won’t watch in the Spring either because I know that’ll show em I mean business

Yeah, it literally does make them morally superior to those refusing to wear a mask. It means that they actually care about those around them and the consequences of their actions.

I'd like to see some links for all this data you keep posting. Who/what is your source?

Mortality rates are just one point. How about the medical cost for the patients that survived? how about the lingering effects that many recovered patients still have? How about all the unknowns? How about it's transmitted via the air just as easily as by touch? There is so much more to this disease than you know.

Who's your source? a real one? or one who gives press conferences?

Rather than blaming the BIG 10 commish, you need to look in your own house. In a vote of14 BIG 10 Presidents, 12 voted for no fall sports including the Purdue president. If you feel the need to blame somebody, look no further than your own University president.

I can't believe our US President would back the desires of college athletes over the thoughtful and researched decisions made by University Presidents. This was not an easy or quick decision for them to make.

BUT I'm a college QB, and I want to play!!!!!! We're saving your life kid whether you want it to be saved or not.

Doing the math, you say the mortality rate is lower than 1 %. 160,000 deaths/300,000,000 people. So at a football game, if we had 60,000 attend, that would mean only 600 fans would die per game. for a basketball game of 15,000 only 150 fans would die per game. and for a student population of 30,000, only 300 students would die. and this does not account for how many would be hospitalized.

all just so you can have your sports to bet on and watch and cmplainon sports forums about.

if you feel like complaining, . don't waste your time here. go to your University President. he's the guy who pulled the plug on your sports.

and while you complain about no football, the decree was for no Fall sports. and yes, there will be other fall sports and athletes affected. I highly doubt Cross Country will be moved to the Spring. Their sport will be most likely just cancelled. But we on this board don't care about that sport or those athletes, do we?

ooohhh...

There are countries which had zero mask requirements and did well, as well as countries which had extraordinary mask requirements and did very poorly.

Are you interested in THAT data, or just the data that supports your agenda?

"POOF"... indeed!

Goodness, Bigs.

Definitely a tough year for a leadership change. I'm not sure Kevin Warren can win either way on this one. Jim Delaney was such a great commissioner that it was always going to be difficult to buy into the next person in the short term.

Yeah, no... it doesn't mean any such thing.

People who don't wear masks don't "care" any less. People who DO wear masks don't "care" any more.

I think the term we're looking for is "virtue signaling".

Everybody knows that the death rate is low in the young. The point is to stop them from spreading the disease to the elderly and high risk people. Children especially are super spreaders, as they typically practice poorer hygiene than adults and are much more careless. Stop with the argument against saving one life. The point is to save thousands of lives by limiting transmission.

We're going to massively agree to disagree.

Okay... then you can do that (agree to disagree).

You say, "(e)verybody knows that the death rate is low in the young", but that simple and basic fact has been disputed on this forum.

Okay... let's move on.

Let's stop with the hyperbole of "super spreaders". There's much medical information indicating they're not contagious. As I've been lectured on this forum: don't spread misinformation.

Keep the elderly (and immunocompromised) away from people who might be transmitting the virus.

That's how we "save thousands of lives by limiting transmission".

What? Now children are super spreaders? Got a link to anyone saying that? If you’re at risk you should take precautions to keep yourself safe, to ask all the rest of society to shut down for your benefit is selfish and lazy. Shutting down schools and other activities are more harmful than the disease for people less than 20 years old. Boomers are so self centered.

160,000 ÷ 300,000,000 X 60,000 = 32 (NOT 600). Given that the death rate is much higher in the elderly and compromised/pre-existing conditions category to even hit the 32 number, attendance at Ross-Ade would have to include an inordinately large number of people in the high risk categories - not likely.

Yup.

For far too many, math is hard.

0-24 mortality is incredibly low.

Instead, there is this narrative pushed about betting on athletes, not caring about student-athletes, using student-athletes... admittedly with an agenda to do away with all college athletics.

This virus has very little (really, zero) effect on college athletes.
