At the beginning of the summer I predicted 6-6 for 2015. I am going to revise this prediction to 7-5 after seeing how the team worked hard all summer and how confident they are and how much improved they appear to be. Like most others, I think Marshall is a huge game.

I believe our OL is the heart and soul of this seasons turn around. I believe AA will put up great numbers for many reasons, but time to throw is the #1 reason. Appleby is 6'5" 239 lbs. and has a stable full of good WR's including big tall WR's who worked overtime all summer starting at 6 am. Our RB's are going to put up big numbers. Just think about this for a minute, our only back who has actually carried the ball is the 3rd RB. That says a lot about all of them. And Byers, Yancey, Fuller and Worship are the next 4. Wow! I'll take that anyday.

Our defense appears to be the best we've had in quite awhile. The DL appears to be greatly improved, and this would be the only area that worries me some. We have depth now. With Howard and Rouse being big guys backing up Watson and Replogle. Our LBers are the best in 10 years or more. B1G sized LBers for once. And I'll take Frankie and AB as the anchors to the DB's anyday. I think Leroy Clark is going to shine, and the other safety will be a wait and see situation, but we have good options. Somebody needs to step up.

We also have veteran PK an P, and these guys will be better than ever. Griggs and Meadows are 2 of the best in the B1G. Winning the field position battle could win the close games that we've been losing.

I also think it's important that we credit the entire staff. Despite miserable records for the past 2 years, the coaches and strength an conditioning staff have done a tremendous job so far. They are preaching to our guys to FINISH and and conditioning them to do so. We have some really, really good coaches.

One last reason for optimism. Coach John Shoop. To all those who continuously bash him, I say give him this year to prove his value. He has taken his offensive schemes and designed an offense that is perfect for our roster. Just wait, you'll see. This offense is going to roll.

Well I'm in at 7-5 and a Bowl win to push us to 8-5.

I love your optimism and I agree that 7-5 record is probable. I know there is nothing to point to justify of our collective optimism based on prior year's record. But, I am convinced by the attitude of the players, their experience, their physical preparedness, and they overall depth combined with e strengthening of the WR and RB corps, that we will put it together and win seven games. At least there are two of us that think the same way. Norm

boiler800 we, at Marshall, have the same view. We see Purdue as a huge game - set the season. Hope you are coming and will have a great time. We want to see a great contingent of Purdue fans.

bbneutralfan I live in SW Florida, and would love to be there, but unfortunately I will watch it on TV. As for the Marshall team, I think they are an amazing team and I know that our BOILERS are ready! I appreciate all the welcoming of Boiler fans by the Marshall people.

Sticking with the 6-6 with a low level bowl win to go 7-6 on the season. Marshall will tell us a lot about this year!

5-7

I don't think the defense will have enough pass rush to beat the better teams

This...

I think our offense is solid enough to win games, and our defense as a whole is too. But against teams with a very good o-line (MSU, Wisconsin, Nebraska etc) I don't know if we have the pass rush to be able to keep them from letting them make all the plays needed to just eat up clock and gas our defense. Hopefully I am wrong and maybe the juco DE (Henley) comes in and makes a huge impact, or maybe Miles/Gelen once back turns out to be a good pass rusher.

Just like everybody else says the Marshall game is huge
If we beat them 7-6 (after bowl)

I was at 2, then 4, and official preseason prediction is 5. Pass rush and the secondary are huge issues. Im not sold on the motor of the DL, but potential is certainly there. 7-8 wins on the season wouldn't shock me, but neither would 3.

Also people over estimate the Marshall game IMO. Its just a game. A good start could come from a win, or another embarrassing loss that causes a hard look in the mirror and leads to a turnaround. We wont know anything about this team until 2-3 games into conference season.

I agree that the Marshall game isn't a must win. ISU and Bowling Green (I realize this isn't a gimme ether but it's Hazell's 3rd year at home against an average MAC team. lose that game and the vast majority of fans are going to give up any faith in Hazell being the answer and Ross Ade will be a ghost town) yes but not Marshall. It's a game against what looks like a solid team on the road to start the season.

I do think Purdue has to come out and compete though. Lose by 3+ TDs and have the game out of reach before the start of the 4th quarter and my, along with many others, confidence in Hazell turning it around will be very low.

I mean obviously we can turn it around, but if we get blown out we will all know the course this season will most likely go

8 wins?!!? Oh my.

I hope you're right but a lot of experts and 25,000 stay-at-home fans are expecting about half that many.

Yeah, Im pretty hesitant, but I have to admit my short list of huge worries was 4-5 and is down to 1
I have a feeling this is going to be a year where we surprise everyone, and where the momentum builds game by game...and where all the fans jump on board and back our BELOVED BOILERS! BOILER UP! Beat Marshall!

Injuries are a wild card because we aren't terribly deep yet. But on paper our two deep looks better and more experienced than it has in a couple years

We beat Marshall, I see 6-6 maybe at best 7-5(of course if we stay healthy and Shoop doesn't become predictable with the offense) We have the capability of being the surprise team of the BIG. Some teams may over look us, and that's a good thing. If we come out and lay an egg......... 4-8 tops!!!!!!

At this point I would have to agree that if we lose the opener a ceiling is 4 or 5 wins but could go as low as 2 or 3. If we win the total could be as high as 7!

The so-called "EXPERTS" are entertaining, and they are the fuel for debate, but they usually are not right. As for the 25,000 stay at home fans--well once they see this team play, if they still stay at home then they need to check themselves into nursing homes because they are to low energy to live elsewhere!

The more I think about it the more excited I get. I really hope DJ Knox is the player that Hazell is hyping him up to be. A good, every down back along with a consistent passing attack would do wonders for this team.

I'll stay with my original prediction 4-8....we could squeeze a 5th win, but I doubt it. This is a good MAC team with MAC coaches and talent playing in the B10. That's not scenario for a good season.

Ya, uncle, I hate to say it, but I see the same thing in my tea leaves.

FWIW - it was the end of last season that did it for me. I just don't have any confidence in this staff. I wish it weren't that way because I was a big cheerleader for hiring Hazel, and I really want to like the guy.

We are a "good" MAC team but you have us losing to every MAC team we play. I guess you'll be disappointed this year.

To be fair, Haze is 1-2 vs. MAC competition at Purdue. And both losses have been ugly blow-outs at home.

A Big 10 coaching staff has to do better than that.

Our coaching staff includes the following coaches:

Marcus Freeman
Gerad Parker
Jim Bridge
Taver Johnson
Terry Malone

I'm sure most B1G schools would take any or all of these coaches. As for those of you living in the past, I can't help you but you should know that this years team isn't the same as the past 2 years, and it is the team playing this year. We only have the future to look forward too and the past is gone. You must have missed all the reports from the spring, summer, and august camp, or you would know the differences between the current team and the past teams. You guys must be big history fans because you love talking about the past. I hope that from 9/6 on you'll move on to current events. It's 2015 guys, and 2014 & 2013 are gone. There is nothing more to talk about, this is not the same team.

Past actions predict future behavior. If they made bad decisions in the past, they most likely will in the future.

As for the reports, read them more carefully, there are some warning signs in there.

Also, the mantra of "the attitude is so much better, and everyone is REALLY buying in this year" needs to be taken with a grain of salt. That was also the #1 story line leading up the 2013 season, and that turned out... well...

Placed a $110 to win 100 PU under 4 wins - win on 3 -push on 4-lose on 5
Would be happy to lose if we get to 5 -- seriously doubt that will happen - Vegas doesn't drink Kool Aid

Am I revising my prediction? To quote Office Space: "No, no man. Shit no man! I believe you'd get your ass kicked." When we lose to iu, there is no room for optimism.

Exhibit A on why Purdue fans generally suck. I'll at least give you credit for monetizing it.

Vegas definitely drinks Kool Aid. That's why all the big, annoying fanbases (ND football, Chicago Cubs, Dallas Cowboys, etc.) get poor odds.

In fact, if you knew how the lines were set, then there is no better example of an entity who drinks Kool Aid.

We will soon see what this years team is going to do, but other than a few people on here, there is near unanimous opinion that this is a different and better team. I hope you are not a gambler, because betting on this team based on the past 2 years performances would be a big mistake, big mistake...huge.

well last year I predicted 4 and we got 3 ( still can't believe we lost the last 2), so this year I was thinking 5 but will probably end up w/ 4.

They can be better and still not have it show up in the wins column.

For me, win the Marshall game and I think 5 wins, with an outside shot at 6.
Lose the Marshall game, and I'm thinking 3.

I've been a fan long enough to know that you generally ignore all the preseason talk about "this is a whole new team" blah blah blah. I could tell by midway through the first game last year that Etling was not going to be the answer. I have a feeling I'll know pretty well how the season is going to go by midway through the Marshal game.

No I don't. In the 1st 4 games, I think we'll beat the one MAC team,Bowling Green & MVC Indiana St, ,and lose to Conf USA Marshall and ACC Virginia Tech. and then go 2-6 in the BIG.

I was with Unc originally and I still am. I don't think it's devastating if we lose to The Herd & Hokies as long as we are competitive and get better. I am tired of having to say that but it's where we are as a program right now. We're still building and I'm for a 5 year Hazell plan before we move in another direction. Shock me and the world Boilers! BTFU
