Initial was out 4-6 weeks, week 5 would be Iowa. Really like how King did but would love to have them both for the hawkeyes. Any sightings in the weight room, practice field, etc.?

In an interview this week Brohm said he's making progress but it might be a couple weeks after the bye.

I predict he'll return for the Nebraska game. I have zero sources whatsoever. It would be huge to get him back for Wisconsin. I think we can beat both Wisconsin and Nebraska and be 5-3 if we get just a few red-zone issues fixed.

Doerue has performed just fine when he's been healthy. Would it be nice to get Horvath back? Of course. Would he make a difference in the red zone? Maybe...

"He can't block 4 guys tho..."

I'm always reminded of my favortie Purdue play which was from the first half of the 1960s, I believe a home game against Wisconsin. After the opponents received a kick off, Jim Garcia threw himself across the three leading blockers being trailed closely by the kick returner. He took all four of them down!!!! He had to be carried from the field but was back later. Some excellent All-American play from that time.

Too bad that we can't return to those Mollenkopf day's of football!

Mollenkopf had really set up Purdue for success. The team was loaded with NFL talent. Unfortunately it got squandered.

After healing he would also have to get in game shape. Couldn't do much running with a broken leg. Could do some bench lifting though.

40+ years ago a buddy of mine was at iu on his dorm floor was the "wedge buster" for the iu football team.
He was only 220ish lbs but one drunk, crazy mf'er and he would launch himself into the wedge and took great pride in knocking multiple guys down, even if he got knocked out doing it. (regularly)
Cocky, stupid and drunk. ALways seemed like a prototypical iu male.

In my experience the prototype has 2 arts degrees, purple hair, and interns at Starbucks (behind the counter).

I would bet that he’d be eased in vs Wisconsin and be available for more snaps vs Nebraska. No inside info, just a guess

Why the knocking of people doing working class jobs? You’re so much better?

you’d rather they not be earning an honest living?

The initial prognosis for return seemed extremely unrealistic in terms of 4-6 weeks. Would love to get Horvath back as soon as possible but I can't imagine him returning anywhere before Ohio State by the time you factor in rehabilitation of a bone in the leg/ankle. Michigan State would probably be the best case scenario.

My surgeon friend (also named Horvath) jokingly said: "fibula, ha. Sprinkle a little dirt on it and send him back into the game. Now tibia, that's a problem!"

Jack Youngblood, former Los Angeles Rams hall-of-fame defensive lineman, played most of the '79 playoffs (including the Super Bowl) with a fractured left fibula. Oh....then he played in the Pro Bowl. I think that may qualify as "Old School."

Cocaine is a helluva drug.

Exactly. I had a walking cast and was off the crutches within a week and playing baseball (it was spring, not fall for me) in less than 4 weeks. Game shape will be the issue in the near term.

Any you studs seen X-rays of the fracture so you can tell us the type of fracture and the severity?

Yeh, it was freakish THEN. Insane now.

I'll still point out that he isn't playing RUNNING back. ;)

I hear you....hell, there's no way anyone would be able to do that now even if they wanted - as the physician staff couldn't clear them - but it wasn't meant in any way as any slight to Zander Horvath or anyone else for that matter. I just happened to remember that when Dandelion posted his comment....much different time back then, and much better medical facilities and knowledge these days, along with a stronger emphasis on health/safety, IMO.

Regardless, hoping ZH can continue to heal/progress and get back on the field soon - it would really help the Boilers out on offense and on the sideline.

Being a life long Rams fan I always appreciate a Jack Youngblood reference

that guy was a great player, always liked him. As far as Horvath in the Pro's , I think it was the 49ers who I 've seen twice this year and they got this FB from Harvard that they use for some tough runs and passes. So it depends what system would utilize him.

Kyle Juszczyk - who just got extended and when healthy is a big part of what SF does. I think Baltimore originally drafted him out of Harvard.
